For what it's worth there are thousands of gun owners out there who dislike the NRA and Wayne LaPierre and have stopped giving them their money or support. Many have moved on to support other gun owner's groups and some of those groups are extremely extreme.

I remember that after the Philando Castile case, one of those competing groups made a point of defending Castile's gun rights...while the NRA remained conspicuously silent.

Isn't the NRA now more a lobbying organization for manufacturers? It looks like all they do is just geared towards higher sales volumes. When Trump revoked the bill preventing mentally ill people from buying guns last year, the NRA called that "a new era for responsible gun owners". Right...

Oh, and yes, they do look as if they don't want to sell to everybody. Needs to be the right skin colour...

It's a lobbying organization for gun manufacturers, but the whole 2nd Amendment-as-holy-text thing makes it extra weird. Watching that creepy CPAC performance, I kept expecting half-crazed, coked-up-looking Dana Loesch to hand off the mic to a wild-eyed Tom Cruise who -- after some remarks about saving the world -- would announce His Grace/Grand Poobah Wayne LaPierre.

I've hunted blacktail with .243 and .308 hunting riffles, have shot various shotguns, and have fired a pistol on a couple occasions (I can't hit shit with a pistol) -- would feel like some sort of poser toting around an AR-15, because I'm not a SWAT officer, a soldier, or a drug cartel thug.

I'm shutting down Google+ for the night and quite possibly for the weekend. Why? This stupid #gifwars thing people are so proud of. This Adam Black guy said he doesn't like gifs and now everyone is mass trolling him. Having been mass trolled like this I can relate to him easily enough. Have an opinion and the collective might of Google+'s lower class denizens jump on a bandwagon. I just saw a post where someone wanted to jump on board and had to get clarification she was tagging the proper Adam Black. She wasn't even connected to him ! Nor was she a part of the original discussion. She just wanted to follow the herd. When I called her out of it she claimed, "one gif doesn't make a troll." Perhaps not, but she's contributing to a larger troll effort. One straw doesn't break the camel's back, but thousands will. So, tonight, Google+ disgusts me. It probably will tomorrow as well. And possibly Sunday. I gave up Google+ for two months this spring
