Okay, so I have Windows 8.

Okay, so I have Windows 8.1 and have been using it like Windows 7 for the better part of the few months I've had the new OS. In other words, I've forgone the Metro UX and opted for the old fashioned Taskbar and Start Menu. However, I've been trying to use more of the Metro tiles. I had no idea what the People app was for, assuming it was some sort of contacts list, but as it turns out, it's more of an aggregated social media feed. Which sounds nice, but I have to wonder, does Facebook track this app? Will Facebook be adding little nuggets of software to my computer to track what I do, where I go, which browsers I use or my keystrokes? As you may have guessed, I don't trust Facebook one bit. I have my FB profile locked down and only visit it Incognito on those rare occasions when I do go there (unfortunately, most of my friends are still there and not here). So, does anyone know how intrusive Facebook is on Windows' People app? Will I be giving up any imaginary p

For those of you who are cyber-stalking me, you know I've been busy this past month working a nigh ob in order to make some extra money. It was s short contract (ending last night, or this morning, rather) upgrading a restaurant chain's PCs and servers from WinXP to Win7. Don't get excited, it's not a fancy or fun restaurant, the chain is a national fast food one with less commercials than it's competitors. In fact, I can't recall seeing a commercial for this particular chain in a long time, maybe a decade. Sadly, I've put on a few pounds doing this contract. Nearly every restaurant offered me a free meal for being their vendor and not being one to turn down a free meal, I said, what the hell ? So, I rearranged my eating habits to account for the late meal, ate early in the evening so the food wouldn't be sitting in my belly when I went to bed in the mornings and tried to eat as light  as I could while on site. Aside from feeling like crap, I wasn&

One of the things that annoys me the most about Blogger is mobile. Not that the mobile app isn't great, but that drafts created on the mobile app don't show up in drafts on desktop. Many times I'm out and about and have an epiphany I want to share with the world. So, I open up the Android app, type out a rough draft, add some photos and then save it for review later. As we all know, typing on a mobile isn't as easy as typing on an actual true keyboard. However, the draft doesn't show up on blogger.com . With all Google's autobackups and save to clouds, one would think the Blogger app would save drafts to the cloud a little easier. Or, maybe it does and I just can't find the setting. I'm pretty, not smart.

Should the CIA be able to destroy troves of emails out there that, in some cases, might be pertinent in 10, 20 or 50 years? If it's a question of storage, didn't the government build a fancy new facility in Utah for the NSA? Couldn't they store those CIA and other .gov backups there? Hell, shouldn't the Archives have a better budget to build their own fancy new facility? http://www.npr.org/2014/11/20/365474273/the-cia-wants-to-delete-old-email-critics-say-not-so-fast?utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=news

Would you pay to be Google ad free on your website?

Would you pay to be Google ad free on your website? Your ads, the ones you sold, would still show up, but the ads AdSense displays would vanish, presumably, making your ads stuck out more. Of, thanks to Google and Facebook, have we trained our minds to skim over ads, treating them like irrelevant data? To be fair, I think Google would do better to sell and AdBlock type service that strips ads from the internet for the general public rather than selling a service that strips ads from your own website. But hey, that's me. http://gizmodo.com/youll-soon-be-able-to-pay-to-make-google-ads-disappear-1661257400

Do You Even?

One of my largest complaints about social media is content created. More specifically, a lack of content creation. I can't remember who it was, but years ago a social media powerhouse once claimed that there are two kinds of social media users: (1) content creators and (2) content distributors. Now, most of us generally distribute content in one form or another, whether it's our own or someone else's, or whether it's just something we found on the interwebz and thought it was interesting enough to share to our collective streams.  However, I've noticed in the past few months that a vast majority of social media users aren't content creators, they're not even proper content distributors. What do I mean by that? Simply put, when you share something with a friend or colleague you usually preface it with comment or some other sort of introduction: Hey, check out this cool band. Awesome beats. I saw this on the internet and think it's hilarious, what do

Ever wondered if Republicans really hated science or if they were just giving lip service to their corporate overlords? Well, here you have it. The GOP is trying to stop scientific experts from advising on legislation so that corporate "experts" have a better chance of confusing the issues. ...experts would be forbidden from sharing their expertise in their own research — the bizarre assumption, apparently, being that having conducted peer-reviewed studies on a topic would constitute a conflict of interest. “In other words,” wrote Union of Concerned Scientists director Andrew A. Rosenberg in an editorial for RollCall, “academic scientists who know the most about a subject can’t weigh in, but experts paid by corporations who want to block regulations can. http://www.salon.com/2014/11/19/house_republicans_just_passed_a_bill_forbidding_scientists_from_advising_the_epa_on_their_own_research/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=socialflow

I know I've been fairly absent these past few weeks, but I've been really really busy. Hell, let's throw in another really because it has been that kind of time. I just added a bunch of new people to community, so hopefully we'll have some new voices to the mix and not a lot of spam. Apparently, there are a shit-ton of spammers out there just trying to get in here and I can't be all knowing  and all fantabulous when screening for spammers. So, if you see someone spamming, go ahead and report them. If you're unsure, just tag me or one of the other moderators in so we can clean it up nice and tidy-like. Otherwise, if you're in the lower hemisphere, go for a ride. If you're in the upper hemisphere, well, dream about the spring. It will be here soon enough.

I dont think I feel comfortable with a church as a polling place. Let's discount the fact that I'm an atheist and believe this is a gross violation of church and state, but let's consider all the Jewish people, the Muslims and others out there who don't want Jesus looking over their shoulder while they perform a specifically secular function. I mean, is Jesus supposed to be guiding my hand to the most religious party/candidate? +Basit Mustafa, maybe you can offer some advice? Plus, the guy in line in front of me smells like he defacated himself. And, the man in charge just told someone that if she had a mailed ballot she should just go home and fill it out. When she said she already did but failed to sign the affidavit, failed to fill it out properly and messed up her voting he said "That's okay, we can fix that." So, its voter fraud to not have an ID on you to vote, but its not voter fraud to have a ballot mailed to you, not sign it or to FUBAR the bal
