I'm shutting down Google+ for the night and quite possibly for the weekend.

I'm shutting down Google+ for the night and quite possibly for the weekend. Why? This stupid #gifwars thing people are so proud of. This Adam Black guy said he doesn't like gifs and now everyone is mass trolling him. Having been mass trolled like this I can relate to him easily enough. Have an opinion and the collective might of Google+'s lower class denizens jump on a bandwagon. I just saw a post where someone wanted to jump on board and had to get clarification she was tagging the proper Adam Black. She wasn't even connected to him ! Nor was she a part of the original discussion. She just wanted to follow the herd. When I called her out of it she claimed, "one gif doesn't make a troll." Perhaps not, but she's contributing to a larger troll effort. One straw doesn't break the camel's back, but thousands will. So, tonight, Google+ disgusts me. It probably will tomorrow as well. And possibly Sunday. I gave up Google+ for two months this spring

This is actually a pretty god idea.

This is actually a pretty god idea. I don't know what they cost or how much power they can produce on average, but could you imagine a third world environment where people can come, plug in, and charge their devices/car batteries/ etc/? It might not be a good fit for running a home or neighborhood (with existing technologies) but as a mobile power generation tool, it's a great idea. http://b4in.info/rc82

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I went to a party. Okay, so it wasn't that long ago and it wasn't in another galaxy, but I did go to a party. It was a friend's 40th. I've known the guy since 1994 and started hanging out with him in 1996/7. Over the years we've traveled together, worked together, helped each other out and been there for each other. Recently, he started dating a girl. By recently, I mean in the past 2 years. He met her through her ex-husband whom he worked with at the time. This was before she got married to him and my friend even went to her wedding. They remained friends all throughout her marriage. When she and her husband decided to break up my friend picked a side. She wasn't out of her house for an hour before they were going on out-of-town weekend trips with her; dating her and then inviting her to move in with him. Fast forward a year and I'm over at his house just hanging out one afternoon. I asked how everything wa

SO, at the dog park earlier today I had a woman (about my mother's age) stop and ask me if Charlie (pictured below) was a collie. Or rather, what kind of collie he was. I told her he wasn't a collie. She asked me, "So what is he, then?" "A Colorado Idiot Dog ." She looked confused and then very seriously told me, "You're not a nice person." "Sure I am," I replied. "Not today, you aren't," she answered back and walked off. Anywho, #fidofriday from Charlie last week when we went camping in Colorado's mountains.

There are a lot of women out there who have been pushed to the sidelines of history because, well, because. Luckily for little girls everywhere, Disney loves a good heroine. However, Disney also likes to "Disney" things up a bit, taking out the blood, sex and real endings, replacing them with songs, helpful teacups and much more family friendly climaxes.  One man, Jason Porath (no G+ profile that I could find) is bringing you princesses from history who wont be making the Disney cut. So, the other day I walk into Chipotle with a friend of mine. As I always do when I enter a building I scan the place to get an idea of who's in there and what's going on. Since this was technically after the lunch rush, there weren't a lot of people in the restaurant.  However, over at the a table in the far left corner is a woman who looks familiar. I took a longer look and, ye it is, it's my ex-girlfriend. Not a recent ex, but one from a few years ago.  We split up after about 8 months of dating when she started badgering me about getting married. After 8 months? Really? I'd seen her there and there over the years, but haven't seen her here or there in about three years. To be honest, I thought she moved away, but Denver's a big enough area and we didn't tend to run in the same circles anyway, so it wasn't weird not seeing her. And yet, there she was. Went to shave my head this morning as I do about once a month during the summer months. I brought the Wahl clippers out and slipped the 1 guide onto the blades and shaved. This happened outside where I don't really have to worry about a hairy mess everywhere. All went well. Then I went into the bathroom and double checked myself in the double mirror. Left, right, front back. Oops, there was a spot that looked a bit longer than the rest. So, I go grab the clippers and touch up the area. Now it looked shorter than everywhere else. What? I looked at the clippers. Apparently I'd taken the 1 guard off and was shaving with bare blades. Damn.  Then I had to shave my entire head with the lower level leaving be with 5 0'clock shadow all over my head. Seriously, my head's hair is shorter than my real life 5 o'clock shadow I'm sporting right now. I don't think I've ever been this bald in my life. Even in the Army. No, there's no picture.

However, I woke up more tired than when I went to bed, couldn't keep my eyes open and generally didn't accomplish much. Instead of packing up the truck I watched some TV ( Poltergeist  was on and it's still a damn good movie) and then watched some more. During the movie I'd occasionally pack a bag, set stuff next to the door to be carried out and make lists of things I needed to be sure to grab before locking the house for a week. I went to the store to pick up some last minute things like bottled water, chips and sodas then headed back home where I dutifully loaded the truck with everything. My last trip to the truck was to load the dogs and drive away. Too bad that's where the problem started. When I arrived home from the store I could hear one of my neighbor's having a very loud ar

I haven't deleted my Facebook profile, but I have stopped using it. Their app has never been on my phone and I don't log into FB from my computer without using Incognito. What really annoys me, though, is when someone creates a Page or an event on Facebook and then shares the bit.ly or ow.ly link re-directing me to Facebook instead of a webpage about the event. Then, without my knowledge, those people are circumventing my personal rules about visiting Facebook and the cookies FB places on my machine that can follow me across the internet whether I want it to or not. Changing the World, One Word at a Time

Many, many, many moons ago I was at the gym and had a chance to overhear a conversation. One man was giving a hard time to another man. The first man -- the complainer -- was tall, thin and had shaggy brown hair. The second man was shorter, blonde and had a striking resemblance to Brendan Fehr . As it turns out, the Shaggy Man had somehow discovered the blonde guy was a local police officer and spent more than an hour forcing questions and opinions on the blonde guy. The blonde guy -- let's call him A Cop -- spent that more than an hour calmly answering questions, letting Shaggy Man know why DUI applies to driving while high and that police procedure is designed to protect both parties.  I walked past the two on numerous occasions as I passed between different pieces of workout equipment and overheard bits and pieces of the conversation, but what I did pick up on was the officer's calm professional demeanor, his willingness to answer questions on his own time and the way

I can't say I've ever heard of the Slenderman before today.

I can't say I've ever heard of the Slenderman before today.  Two twelve year old girls stabbed a third 12 year old 19 times and left her to die. Luckily, the third girl was able to crawl long enough to be spotted by a passerby. The girls blamed the Slenderman for their actions. One has to wonder, if they were older or had more upper body strength, whether the third girl would have died. http://edition.cnn.com/2014/06/03/justice/wisconsin-girl-stabbed/ h/t Chelle Ann  http://edition.cnn.com/2014/06/03/tech/web/stabbing-who-slenderman/index.html

Denver's Hampden Branch

Below is an email I had to send to the senior librarian for the Denver public library system. It's long and not worth the read, but it needed to be said. Shirley,  I regret to say this email is not being sent as acknowledgement for superior service or as a compliment in other areas. This email finds you as a complaint of experiences I've had at the Hampden Branch over the recent past. First, allow me to describe myself. I am an avid fan, and user, of the library system here in Denver. A member since the early 2000s, I have used the library nearly exclusively for books, movies and magazines for the past eight years. I visit the Hampden Branch approximately once a week, sometimes more depending on my schedule and have been known to spend time at University-Hills, Montbello, Smiley, Park Hill and Central as well. When I need to be have a nice quiet place to work I find a nearby library in lieu of a coffee shop for other restaurant. Since it's close to home, I usually

Want to see something to make your stomach churn?

Want to see something to make your stomach churn? Next time the GOP and their tea party affiliates want to talk about voter fraud they need to look within, not at others. Originally shared by Ole Olson Just when you think Republicans can't get any lower they pull something like this. The GOP has distributed fliers to Dem neighborhoods literally stating "Democrats vote on Wednesday." They've sent out fundraising letters that look like official Census forms, sent out ballots to Dems with late return date, cheated district boundaries to stack the deck, and tried to disqualify eligible voters. There is no dirty trick conservative Republicans won't try to cheat democracy with. This might take the cake though. #Democracy #Phoenix #Politics http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2014/06/02/Tea-partier-legally-changes-name-to-Cesar-Chavez-and-switches-party-affiliation-to-run-in-Hispanic-district/4721401744886/

While overlooking profiles before allowing people to join my Community (I check every single profile for relevant data) I noticed one person belonged to this group. Wow. Apparently there's a community for that. Who knew?

All you advertisers out there who use auto-play videos when someone visits a website, let me tell you how annoying that is for the rest of us. Not only is it outing someone who might be perusing a website while at work, but auto-play ads are especially aggravating when in a quiet zone.  Let's say, for example, I'm sitting in a library (which I am) and someone using one of the library's computers clicks to his Facebook/CNN/DenverPost/wherever and an auto-play video pops up and starts playing. Loudly.  This means my quiet place of solitude has just been infiltrated with your stupid ad for something I don't care about. Remember those blinking ads that surrounded content on just about every late 90s and early 00s webpage? Your ads are like those but even more annoying. /rant

This is me at St. Johns Cathedral ( http://sjcathedral.org/ ) a couple of months ago during the Doors Open Denver ( http://doorsopendenver.com/ ). I finally got around to editing  at least one picture from then. It's also my fist real attempt to play with onOne Software 8.5. And for those of you who are questioning ... this is me not burning in a church.
