No collusion here, folks. Move along. Less than two weeks before Trump accepted the Republican nomination, Manafort offered in emails to a middleman, his former business associate Konstantin Kilimnik, to brief Deripaska on the 2016 presidential race, The Washington Post and The Atlantic reported last year. In the emails, Kilimnik wrote to Manafort about an associate "our friend V" with ties to Deripaska, The Atlantic reported. According to Time, Boyarkin was the "friend." #DonaldTrump #TrumpNation https://www-m.cnn.com/2018/12/29/politics/russian-former-spy-paul-manafort-trump-campaign/index.html?r=https://plus.url.google.com/mobileapp

#DonaldTrump and the #GOP don't seem to be worried about their legacy - of how history will judge our times. Historians, on the other hand, we're asked to show us how future generations would judge 2018 and it's not good: The year 2018 marked the moment when America’s abdication of its role of leadership in the world, begun in 2017, grew more pronounced and irreversible. Trump called into question or flatly rejected America’s commitments to its allies, to free trade, to the rule of law, to democratic norms and to a global effort to avert the most dire consequences of climate change. He made America, in the eyes of much of the rest of the world, a rogue state. The president of the United States had long been the most consequential person in the world; that distinction shifted to the president of China in 2018. The world has never been the same. #TrumpNation is the culmination of 40 years of GOP propaganda and the beginning of the end of that shining beacon of light in the d

#HaHaHa #CenturyLink sucks as a service provider, at least for consumer users. I can't tell you how many times we dropped service or it slowed to a crawl for no apparent reason and now they're going to send a lot of people to their next ISP. The issue began early Thursday morning for some customers. On downdetector.com , some customers commented that their internet service was intermittent, while others complained about the lack of communication about the outage and how long it would last. Customers also vented their frustration on Twitter with the hashtag "#CenturyLinkDown." https://amp.businessinsider.com/centurylink-phone-and-internet-outages-reported-nationwide-2018-12

Is this how we #MAGA?

Is this how we #MAGA? Of course, this isn’t Trump’s first failure in operational security. In October, the New York Times reported that when Trump calls friends on his personal iPhone — a device he was supposed to ditch for security measures — Russian and Chinese spies eavesdrop to gauge the president’s mood and who might have his ear on policy matters. Other low-tech security risks emerged in the report: Last year, Trump left his cell behind in a golf cart at his course in New Jersey, causing “a scramble” to find it. Nor is it Trump’s first impromptu revelation of national security interests: In April 2017 phone call, Trump told Rodrigo Duterte, the authoritarian president of the Philippines, that the U.S. had sent two nuclear submarines to the waters off the coast of North Korea. And, in May 2017, hours after the dismissal of James Comey, Trump revealed Israeli intelligence assets to the Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, jeopardizing the Israeli-American intelligence link and leavin

There is a lot going on in this article, to include the chastising of the more liberal arm of the Democratic party and calling out #DonaldTrump for his never-ending tirade of all things batshit crazy, but this stands out: "Now they'll tell you, if it's just the two of you, 'The guy is nuts, he doesn't have a grasp of the issues, he's making rash decisions, he's not listening to people who know the subject matter,' " she said. "But in public if they go after him ... they know they get a primary, and they know that's tough." Words

Just now, while ordering food at a deli, I had an incident that didn't need to happen Here's how it all went down: This particular deli you walk up to the counter, order your food, they bring it to you right then and there and then you go find your seat. Easy, right? Well, usually. Today it was far less busy than I thought it would be and I stepped up at my turn and ordered what I wanted. The girl behind the counter grabbed my food and a cup for the soda machine and slid them out to me. As I was paying I noticed my cup had a misshapen rim that wouldn't be conducive to a lid, so I asked, "Can I get a cup a lid will go on?" The woman who as taking my money pointed to the soda fountains, "Lids are over there." So, I tilted the cup down and showed her the rim that looked like it had been squished at some point or another, "No, I need a cup that a lid will go on." She looked at me again, indicated the general direction of the soda fountain a

It's Been a Couple of Weeks ...

A few weeks ago I finally broke down and took my friend's mom up on her offer to stay with her (in her basement) until I "get back on my feet." The weather was turning ever colder and was supposed to top out in the 30s (Fahrenheit) for about a week, which meant teens overnight. I probably could have lasted a day or two, but not for the foreseeable future. As it turns out, that cold front barely lasted a week. I'd held off due to her stipulations about moving in with her. No alcohol, to include coming home from the bar; no porn and no women. Yes, really. In fact, out conversation went something like this: Her: "Do you drink?" Me: "I have the occasional drink, but am I a drinker ? No." Her: "Well, there's no alcohol at my house. I won't have it [in there]. And there's no going out drinking and coming home drunk, either." Me: "Okay ..." It wasn't a big deal because I really don't drink that often, especia

That's your "Merry Christmas" loving, religious nutjob appealing president right there, folks. After Trump bought a building close to Central Park in 1981, he refused to decorate the lobby for Christmas – part of a concerted strategy, according to the New York Times, to hound out residents from the building, so he could knock it down and build a big tower. It wasn’t just a decoration issue. Timeline reported that the day after Christmas 1983, Trump filed an eviction proceeding against a tenant. #DonaldTrump #TrumpNation https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/dec/23/trump-war-on-christmas-happy-holidays-businesses?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

#DonaldTrump's unprecedented re-election campaign (remember, he infamously filed for 2020 before he was even sworn in in 2017) is literally gobbling up the Republican Party, preventing any other would-be #GOP Presidential candidates from racing against him. And the Republicans election network is on board with this. Under the plan, which has been in the works for several weeks, the Trump reelection campaign and the RNC will merge their field and fundraising programs into a joint outfit dubbed Trump Victory. The paradox of tolerance.

The paradox of tolerance. Without a doubt the most culturally relevant paradox on this list, the paradox of tolerance is the idea that a society that is entirely tolerant of all things will also be tolerant of intolerance. Eventually, the tolerated intolerant elements of a society will seize control, rendering that society a fundamentally intolerant one. Therefore, in order to remain a tolerant society, intolerance cannot be tolerated. And n short, as we become more tolerant, those who we've become i tolerant of take more power. Which makes sense as we're seeing in modern society and liberal tolerance of the intolerant conservatives. https://bigthink.com/surprising-science/10-bizarre-paradoxes?rebelltitem=10#rebelltitem10

This actually makes some sense.

This actually makes some sense. However, the most likely candidate is pollution. Research has shown that chemicals that are commonly found in medicine and pesticides inhibit testosterone. These chemicals are seeping into our water, contributing to fertility problems in fish. The researchers also speculate that this same mechanism is occurring in humans as well. and Good news: The things that are lowering men's testosterone levels may be complicated, but combating this issue is simple and probably what you would have guessed anyways. Eat a healthy diet, exercise more, and get a good night's sleep. If you really want to go the extra mile, avoid eating or drinking from plastic containers. Finally, get political: When environmental regulation goes out the window, so too does your health. Contrary to the stereotype, becoming a treehugger might be the best way to save your masculinity. https://bigthink.com/sex-relationships/men-have-less-testosterone-today?rebelltitem=3#rebelltitem3

Is the USA seeing a pagan revival?

Is the USA seeing a pagan revival? As more and more people are leaving the Big 3, some for atheism and others for agnosticism or spiritualism, we might be inclined to give an emphatic yes . However, we must first define what we mean by "paganism". Are we sticking to the original Latin for 'country bumpkin', going with the far more common definition of 'people who follow non-Abrahamic religions' or the new definition being put forth in this opinion piece: 'secularism and spiritualism without god'? Which is why lately I’ve become interested in books and arguments that suggest that there actually is, or might be, a genuinely post-Christian future for America — and that the term “paganism” might be reasonably revived to describe the new American religion, currently struggling to be born. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/12/opinion/christianity-paganism-america.html

The researchers believe that drawing led to better memory when compared with other study techniques because it incorporated multiple ways of representing the information–visual, spatial, verbal, semantic and motoric. A long time ago, in a state far far away, I started doodling while the teachers were talking. It's something I kept with me then one day it was just gone. I don't know when or why, maybe because I stopped being a student, but one day I was sitting in a corporate training wondering why i couldn't retain much of the information. Upon wondering why I realized there were few to no doodles in my notebook. So, I started doodling and the information became easier to retain. via Luna Occulta Originally shared by Neuroscience News Drawing is Better than Writing for Memory Retention Older adults who take up drawing could enhance their memory. When you're young and not confident in your eel snorting yet. This phenomenon, eels getting stuck in seals' noses, is rare; the team has observed only three or four cases of eel-nose in the past four decades, said Charles Littnan, a monk seal conservation biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries. But weirdly, the incidence has been increasing in the past couple of years. "In almost 40 years of monitoring, we have actually never observed this until a few years ago," Littnan said. https://www.livescience.com/64249-seal-eel-stuck-nose.html

Time to stay out of Ohio.

Time to stay out of Ohio. Radioactive waste may be used for de-icing roads and who knows how much of that will run-off into streams, rivers and lakes. That'll create an interstate conundrum after thousands of people get sick, flora and fauna die off and Ohio's agricultural industry takes a dive. But hey, at least they found a use for the used chemical, right? However, the bill has been opposed by a number of environmental groups, which point to a state report showing the salty liquid has radium levels up to 500 times higher than federal drinking-water limits. According to the 2017 memo from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, state officials found high radium levels in samples taken from a suburban Akron company, as well as from de-icers purchased at nearby stores. When you read this and believe the #GOP in Michigan is even more batshit crazy than you originally thought, consider this as well: the Republican party has been using the states as testing grounds for decades. They try something in one state, see how it plays our and then either adjust or apply to other states. Not the exactly the reason, but a good approximation of thereof, why I haven't had Facebook on my devices in 6 or seven years. One of the most revealing lines in a newly released trove of internal Facebook emailscomes from a 2015 discussion about a new type of data that the company wanted to start collecting. Specifically, Facebook wanted to read users’ “call logs” on Android devices—lists of everyone they had called and texted on their phones, even when they weren’t using Facebook. https://amp.slate.com/business/2018/12/facebook-emails-lawsuit-embarrassing-mark-zuckerberg.html?__twitter_impression=true

Where did the term "restroom" originate and why do women get those couches in theirs?

Where did the term "restroom" originate and why do women get those couches in theirs? Well, that's a story from another time ... The women’s parlor at the Emporium in San Francisco offered visitors periodicals and stationery in addition to a place to rest. Similar impressive but no-longer-existing spaces could be found at Higbee’s in Cleveland, the Jordan Marsh Company in Boston, and at the “rest rooms” at Lansburgh & Bro. department store in Washington, D.C. Today, you can still find seating areas adjacent to the women’s restroom in many Nordstrom stores across the country, as well as at Bloomingdale’s and the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. https://www.citylab.com/design/2018/12/history-womens-bathroom-design-lounge/576742/

Looks like Tumblr is done with nudity. It was just a matter of time, if you ask me. Yahoo might have been willing to turn a blind eye, but there's no way Verizon was going to keep going that way. And like Google+ before it, they picked a flimsy excuse to make such sweeping changes. Where Google decided a security breach was enough to shutter the Ploos, Verizon decided one case of child pornography was enough to shut down all nudity posts, not just the one account. https://www.theverge.com/2018/12/3/18123752/tumblr-adult-content-porn-ban-date-explicit-changes-why-safe-mode

A Morning with iCareAmbulance

Late last night I remembered a post I wanted to make. It's not about me, per se, but more about a pet peeve of mine (and a little public shaming). On Friday I was traveling to an event in Centennial, CO. I was just south of Arapahoe on Lima when, in the distance, a vehicle with "emergency" lights was parked in the center suicide  lane. Not knowing what was going on, but knowing there were some government offices up ahead, I slowed expecting to be told to turn around or that the road was otherwise closed for whatever reason. But no, the vehicle parked in the center lane was not an emergency vehicle, it was a private ambulance company . Not only was there no emergency for the ambulance to be at, especially with it's lights flashing, but there didn't seem to be any remnants of an emergency. No dented cars, no police vehicles or fire trucks; no crash residue on the pavement, flares or orange cones. Nothing. So, why was this guy parked in the middle of the road w

I had to laugh out loud at this: Kleymenov threw in a few more barbs about the age of the U.S. president, claiming that Donald Trump is so incoherent that he had to have "45" embroidered on his cuffs, just so he wouldn’t forget he is President number 45. It seems the Russians no longer consider #DonaldTrump their useful idiot and just consider him an idiot who may still have some uses. In #TrumpNation even your handlers are tired of your shit. Life Update

The weather outside is frightful ... In fact, the weather hasn't been too bad these past couple of days. Until tomorrow - - Monday (tomorrow) is supposed to continue our cool streak but simultaneously adding snow and other winter-like conditions to life in the Denver metro area. In fact, the snow front was supposed to move in today but for some reason was delayed about 24 hours. From what I understand the ski resorts have been loving the weather snowfall. Much more so than I will be, which is why I took my friend's mom up on her offer to stay in her basement for a while so I can get on my feet. Yes, I've slept the past couple of nights in a "bed." Why the quotes? Because the "bed" is nothing more than a mattress on the ground. The bathroom I have access to is small enough to fit comfor

Right there: Deutsche Bank is more concern with what Robert Mueller may uncover in his investigation than they are in Jared Kushner and are willing to throw him under the bus to protect the rest of their business dealings. “What BaFin will do about [the bank’s findings] is not the bank’s greatest concern,” the German magazine reported. “Rather, it’s the noise that U.S. special counsel Robert Mueller … will make in his pursuit of Trump.
