Apparently people are upset over this particular strategy: The best way to do that, apparently, is to create a handy online form that people can fill out and then automatically send off to the FCC ... What's ironic is I get a dozen of these very similar "forms" from liberal aligned groups everything single day. Whether it's adding an animal to the endangered species list or if it's flooding Trump's mail box, there's always some form, with carefully worded agenda, to fill out. https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/shady-conservative-group-is-flooding-the-fcc-with-anti-net-neutrality-comments

Tonight was the National Correspondents Dinner and instead of being in Washington, DC trying to win over the press #DonaldTrump decided to host a rally in friendlier territory. _It didn't matter what Trump did or didn't do during the first 100 days. It didn't matter that Saturday night he had his biggest crowd in the state and spent most of the time blasting the media attending the White House Correspondents roast of him . The only thing that really matters to these supporters is that he talks like they do and has them convinced he will "make America great again" and "bring America back."_ http://www.pennlive.com/news/2017/04/why_does_trump_keep_coming_to.html

Many many moons ago I read a series of sci-fi / fantasy books based loosely upon the Tuatha de Danaan. Having never heard of the Irish Book of Invasions or the people they're about, I found the subject fascinating. I can't a put a finger on any one thing, but the ancient Irish characters seemed much more vibrant than any Greco-Roman counterparts we learned of in school. For years I devoured any book I could on these ancient people, their beliefs and their histories. Yes, there are conflicting stories. Many of them, if I had to guess, due to Christian monks making them more christianized and countless versions later relying on those first documents. It wasn't until the past fifty to sixty years that archeologists and anthropologists have started taking these stories seriously and looking at them with new eyes instead of rehashing the same stories over and over again. https://youtu.be/wxLtDNGq1A4

If you've been in my circles for any length of time at all then you've probably heard me rant at one point or another about the conversation - the discussion - being paramount any other aspect of social media. These rants usually occur after some ideologue is not having everyone agree with him, or her, and shuts down the comments or starts banning commentors. The discussion, whether you're in alignment or not, needs to happen. If it doesn't, if we're not exchanging ideas in a respectful manner, then we're polarizing our culture. And that's nothing good for anyone. http://www.adweek.com/brand-marketing/hey-pepsi-heres-how-its-done-heineken-takes-on-our-differences-and-nails-it/

An adblocker to end all adblockers?

An adblocker to end all adblockers? Let's face it, we all understand the internet runs on ads and most of us don't have a problem with seeing ads on webpages. The issues we have are with those ads that are intrusive or they devour resources, slowing down the websites they're on and possibly the internet at large. If marketing departments and webmasters were better trained and more vigilant in keeping these nefarious ad campaigns in check we wouldn't need ad blockers. And yet, instead of correcting their own behavior companies have been trying to work around adblockers, making them impotent. And that's the wrong plan of action, in my opinion. And so, we have adblockers and an ever-evolving game of oneupmanship instead of better code and a better user experience. https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/princetons-ad-blocking-superweapon-may-put-an-end-to-the-ad-blocking-arms-race

I was just out taking the dogs for their evening walk when we ran across a neighbor also out taking his dog for a walk. James (the neighbor, if you didn't pick up on that) is a nice enough guy who moved into the neighborhood around December first. We've spoken a few times and the dogs get along great. His dog (who's name I can never remember) is three, very friendly and just wants to play. So, when I saw him this evening I invited him to walk along with us and he took me up on the offer. As we're walking and talking he brings up his work again. He's an independent general contractor, usually subbing out from larger GCs. Every time he's brought it up, which is every time we speak, he starts blaming illegal Mexicans for his lowers rates; usually some variation of, "Damn contractors keep hiring the illegals so they can drive their rates down and not pay me a real rate." Naturally, he brought it up again today, then went off on the GC company he's been

Want to listen to a conversation where a man tries to justify sex with a 9 year old boy? Me neither, but apparently these conversations happen. What's worse is he'd trying to use the argument that if you trade, say money or an Xbox, it's okay to violate a child and the child is mature enough to make such an agreement. I use an ad blocking Chrome extension, but even I am skeptical about Google baking in ad blocking into Chrome. Originally shared by Alex Hernandez Fortune Magazine gets it. The problem is that Google is hugely conflicted when it comes to fixing this. The browser through which it plans to offer ad blocking has more than 50% of the market, and Google itself owns and operates two of the largest ad networks in the world, DoubleClick and AdSense. Presumably, none of those ads would be blocked by this service. Even if you dislike intrusive advertising, that's a scorched-earth response to the problem. Jury is Out on Castle Doctrine

Yesterday a friend of mine had to report for jury duty. Yes, jury duty. I know - I know, some of you are cringing in your chairs right now - jury duty?  - but someone's got to do it.  I've been called for jury duty three times, myself and consider it a civic duty I'm more than happy to comply with. Where else do you get a front row seat to the inner workings of the criminal justice system and have a say in, not only how the law is carried out, but the players in whatever case you're there to witness? And yet, my friend went in with trepidation. She'd never been called for jury duty in all her 36 (or is it 37?) years and since this was her first time she kept me as updated as she could throughout the day.  I don't know how jury duty works everywhere, but I'm sure the basics are the same: you get a noticed from the city/county/state, call in to verify you're needed the night before reporting, arrive the next morning to sit in a room full of people as

New Blogger Themes for Jasonsims

If you've seen some changes to the blog recently, then you've probably noticed me playing with some of the new Blogger themes they released recently. I can't say I'm a fan of any of them yet, each having their own pluses and minuses. I was hoping for some cleaner modern style, which Blogger gave us, but it looks like these themes are designed to mimic the side-by-side UI of Google+, which itself was redesigned to appear more like Pinterest's columns of information a couple of years ago. Right now I'm settling on this theme due to it's giant banner image up at the top. I like the columns, but they're offset which is messing with my OCD. Not that I have OCD, I just like things to line up. This theme is called " Soho ", but I may try " Empirio " sooner rather than later just because the columns align perfectly. I wish the whole thing was centered on the page rather than having all that blank space off to the right (or left) side, tho

As all my readers know, I've been without a cell phone for about a month now. In fact, tomorrow will be exactly 30 days from the day my previous phone broke. And, as we all know, I ordered a phone used from Amazon only to have it come unusable . So, I boxed it up and sent it back. The return took about a week and Amazon finally reimbursed my money so I ordered a brand new Blackberry Priv just to avoid any further issues with the security features. While ordering some other things on Amazon I mistakenly clicked the "try Prime for 30 Days" option so I expected my new phone to arrive within three days with their two-day shipping. One day for boxing and shipping and two to arrive. In fact, Amazon sent me an email stating my device should arrive by 8PM on April 13th. I eagerly awaited the device. Not because I needed a phone, although that would be convenient, but because - new toy ! Yes, I just wanted to play with the new tech, explore Blackberry's features and put
