Want to see something amazing? Fox News has a pro Obamacare article. Granted, it's an opinion piece, but it's written by a regular Fox contributor and to be fair Fox did post it on their site. Originally shared by Don N I can't believe this was on FOX News. An opinion piece backed up with facts and figures and sources for them. No one seems to be on the right side of this exchange.

No one seems to be on the right side of this exchange. It looks like the bikes were riding like jackasses and one tried to intimidate the SUV driver by slamming his brakes in front of the Land Rover. The Rover ended up running over at least one bike(r) and then took off, the remaining bikers in hot pursuit. When they finally catch the driver they break his window and presumably take out street justice. I'll see if I can find an article on this video anywhere for more information. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ukdkgLYYbw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Canon City, CO and Thereabouts

Image
A few months ago I went to Canon City, CO to go camping in the area with a friend. Naturally, I grabbed my dSLR and brought it along, but unfortunately there were more days of bad light than good light. What's "bad light" you might ask? Well, Timmy, "bad light" is flat and boring.  Fortunately, though, I was able to grab a couple of decent images, even more fortunate are the others I was able to save with some creative editing. Click Collage to go to Album My friend had plans our first day in the area and I was left to my own devices. I took the truck and the dogs up into them thar hills and lucked across this old GMC sitting in someone's front yard. I pulled over and snapped a couple of shots quickly before jumping back into the Explorer and moving on.  One our way back to the campsite from the city my friend suggested taking this very short very scenic   route along some sort of ridge . The top might have been three car lanes wide, leaving only one lane

There's a Noise in the Bin

Image
I may have saved a life today. Well, not maybe , I definitely saved a life today, the question is how  did I save a life today? Just like every other morning in my life I woke, showered, dressed and then took the dogs for a walk. We walked our normal route around the neighborhood, around a nearby park, through another neighborhood and back to ours. Just like every other morning. Nothing different at all. As we came back around to our neighborhood from the opposite direction I heard a rustling in the dumpster on the corner. This wasn't uncommon as squirrels like to get in there and tear apart the garbage bags looking for food. However, the attention Rufus gave to the noise was uncanny. Usually when he hears the squirrels he searches around the dumpster and when he doesn't find anything to chase he follows me. I rarely stop walking this is so common. Believe it or not, there are four But this rustling seemed somehow larger and Rufus seemed way more interested in what

Victory Ride 2013

Image
Victory Motorcycles Once again the Victory Motorcycles demo truck rolled into Denver and once again I headed down to Grand Prix Motorsports to have my turn at the reigns of one of these machines. I really wish I'd arrived sooner and had a chance to give a couple of these machines a turn, but a friend came with me and that particular friend wasn't exactly moving at the speed of normal. We finally arrived somewhere around 2PM and grabbed a complimentary philly cheesesteak from A Taste of Philly (mmm... complimentary yumminess) before walking over to the Victory tent and signing up for their demo rides. Luckily, unlike last year, there wasn't much of a wait and I was able to get in the next round of rides. I signed all the blah-blah-blah legal mumbo jumbo: No, I won't sue you; No I won't race; No I won't change lanes or pass or pull off on my own ride , etc. Shortly after I signed all their paperwork the bikes came in from whatever ride they were currently on an

But then there's the aftermath of cancelling accommodations, hall reservations etc. When Willie and Carol Fowler's daughter cancelled her wedding, they were faced with a similar situation. But instead of cancelling everything and losing their deposits, they did something unbelievable: they threw a party for those less fortunate. You know that feeling when you're completely in the ethical and legal 'right' but someone else was put out and suddenly you're the bad guy? Story of my life. I was out walking Dumb and Dumber when a couple came down the sidewalk on their bicycles. The couple have two dogs, both large like small mastiffs or giant boxers, the man in the lead holding onto both leashes and his bicycle. I've seen them before and generally move off the sidewalk when I see them coming, just to be polite. However, today I was sandwiched in by a couple of bushes and a sign post and had nowhere to go easily, especially when toting two leashes. As the couple rode closer Charlie (Dumber, in this scenario) started barking because he always barks at things with wheels (bicycles, strollers, rollerblades and skateboards). Then their smaller dog (easily near 100 lbs) started barking and as I pulled Charlie back while telling him, "Be quite! Stop barking," the other dog lunged, pulling the

The last bit is what I want to talk about regarding this video.

The last bit is what I want to talk about regarding this video. Whether or not you believe a religion or a religious idea should be endorsed by a public entity, I want to talk about what the mural creator states at the end, here. He says the majority will of the people should be paramount and those of the minority should succumb to such a will. Do you agree? That is my question. Does the majority have right over the minority? Does a popular idea automatically deem an idea worthier than an unpopular idea? Would you agree with this sentiment if you were not in the majority?  I firmly believe our founders created a republic as a direct result of the threat of mob rule which is exactly what you get when you believe as this guy does. Popular ideas are not put forth to the people to vote on, but rather we elect representatives who (should) decide the best course of action whether or not that idea is sound. http://video.pbs.org/video/2365004455/

Ran across this four month old puppy at the dog park this evening. His ears were large enough I thought he could hear the future. It was his second outing to the dog park and he was a little nervous around Rufus and Charlie, but after a few seconds he became a bit more confident. The only real problem I saw with his was his sloped back. It was severely angled and I think it's just hideous on GSDs. I really tried to get a side shot of his standing but he sat very quickly and whenever I kneeled down either Rufus or Charlie would get in the way. By the way, his name was "Chewie" as in Chewbacca. Apparently the breeder named all his dogs after Star Trek characters and just to stay "sci-fi" Chewie's owner named him after the Wookie. The breeder apparently flipped his lid when he found out. He's not much of a SW fan.

Chilies, Chilies Everywhere

Image
It wasn't my decision, honestly. In fact, I'm not really into "spicy" foods, preferring well balanced flavors over the tongue and gums burning of jalapeno, ghost and habanero peppers. However, I was invited down to the Pueblo, CO Chili  Pepper Festival and having never been, I decided it would be fun to go for an afternoon. While chili peppers aren't necessarily my thing, I do love doing experiences that are outside my comfort zone. Besides, I thought if I brought my camera I could get some good cultural shots of the festival to share with the world on Blogger and Google+. But this morning didn't work out the way we'd planned. My friend sent me a message after 9AM citing her alarm clock didn't go off and she was running later. That was fine by me since I didn't even set an alarm, just trusting that I would awake far earlier than she. She asked me if dogs could go tot he festival. How the heck would I know? I've never been there. So,

It's been a While

I know, it's been a while, right? The summer came (and went) and I didn't post a damn thing on this blog. For that, I'm sorry. It was never my intention to ignore this blog these past six months, but I have and there's no one to blame but myself. The truth of the matter is, I didn't ride this summer. As not a single one of you already knows my bike (the unstoppable SV1000s) has had some electrical issues. First I thought it might be the battery, but after a quick check the battery was fine. Then, after being checked by the guys at TFOG , I was told the regulator/rectifier wasn't doing it's job and therefore the batter wasn't getting the charge it deserved. So, I bought a new one and installed it, charged the batter up and took off for a ride. I made it nearly a couple of hours before the bike started having trouble starting again, the lights dimmed and the turn signals stopped working at all. I headed home quickly. After that I had no choice but to think

Google Maps Strikes Again

I really really hate Google Maps. This is no easy thing to admit since I'm incredibly immersed in the Google ecosystem. Recently I had to wonder if I was going to leave the Android experience for, perhaps, the Windows Lumia experience or even the Blackberry experience. Having loved both my earlier Nokia and Blackberry handsets, I would have no misgivings about going back to those particular companies. However, as I looked at their online app store offerings, I cringed. Sure they had Facebook and Twitter, music and movie apps and hosts more, they didn't have  +Google+  ,  +Snapseed  (one of my most used apps) or very many of the Google suite of apps at all. I suppose I could use more Flickr than Picasaweb/G+ Photos, Skydrive over  +Google Drive   or a variety of other workarounds that give the same functionability but without the Google ecosystem. This brings me to Maps which is by far Google's worst product. Sure, they keep adding features to the service, feature

*#3 Wocket in your Pocket? A dollar is better. If you are taking a trip or you live in Illinois and you prefer to carry your debit and credit cards instead of cash, make sure that you begin carrying at least $1 in your wallet. According to an Illinois law, people who do not have at least $1 in their wallet at all times are considered to be homeless or vagrants. While the grunge “homeless” look may be coming back into fashion – sitting at the police station for a charge of vagrancy will never be in style. The law doesn’t specify if coins count, but make sure that you’ve got at least one George Washington with you in Illinois.* I really wish they would have listed the statute for this one. http://www.mkwhy.com/another-12-weird-and-useless-laws-of-america/10/

I didn't have my dSLR on me and we didn't get there until 5PM (the park closes at 7PM) so we didn't have a lot of time to walk the trails.  These are some Android shots and believe it or not, one of these hasn't been manipulated in Snapseed. None of them needed manipulation but I like playing. ;)

There are not enough words in the English language to explain how incredibly frustrating it is trying to create a map in Google Maps. The whole effort is entirely too counter-intuitive and buggy. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it! I thought Google would have fixed some of their issues with that new Mapmaker thing but that's even more annoying than regular Google Maps. All I want to do is create a friggin route on a Google Map. Just highlight a friggin route for people to follow. But noooooo...! Creating a line on the screen? Easy. Panning the screen while creating a line? Not easy. Panning the screen while creating a line and then changing the route (such as taking a right or a left) and then suddenly the lines are all over the friggin place and there's no way to un-spaghetti the lines and put them back on track.  Instead you have create the lines in individual segments, saving each one separate, thus adding unnecessary steps to every single segment, when all I want to do is crea

Rep. Duckworth severely chastises (disabled verteran) Mr. Castisllo who gamed the system and prevented others from having access to veteran's benefits for his own personal gain. Fantastic. Totally worth the 8 minute watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPOKm20wP4s&feature=share

I think the title says it all.

I think the title says it all. She was a professor at the University for 25 years and when push came to shove she fell over, then died. Oh, let me clarify, this is a Catholic (private) university, supposedly with morals and ethic prescribed by the Church. http://www.alternet.org/economy/underpaid-83-year-old-professor-died-trying-make-ends-meet-working-night-shift-eat-save

It boggles the mind to think of privatization of civic resources.

It boggles the mind to think of privatization of civic resources. And this is why. When all the pieces come together and crime rates drop (who doesn't like lower crime rates) the cities and states across this nation have to come up with new and unique ways of keeping people locked up in order to satisfy contractual obligations to private industries. That's right. People who shouldn't be in prison, now get a one-way ticket. People who should be leaving, get to stay. The judicial system becomes less about rehabilitating and paying a debt to society and more about propping up an industry that shouldn't be there in the first place. Think on that. An industry that shouldn't be there in the first place.  It's an artificial industry that serves no public interest other than making wealthy people wealthier while ensuring the lowest quality of service. It's been proven time and again that privately run prisons are consistently violating local laws and ordinances as w

Eeegads, that sucks!

Eeegads, that sucks! Ten days ago, or so, I dropped my Note II for the first time and cracked the screen. It was the first time I'd ever cracked a phone's screen. A few days later I had the device sitting on the couch next to me when my roommate's dog come barreling across and kicks it onto the floor.  Today, just a mere 30 minutes ago, I went to retrieve a ball in a creek that the same dog did not return and the phone fell out of my pocket and into the creek. Of course, the back case and battery fell off and they're the only two things that did not fall into the water. Ten inches of Colorado cool. Gah! It's sitting in rice right now, but darnit, I can't afford to just go replacing phones willy-nilly.

This is what justice looks like in #Floriduh . People like George Zimmerman get off from killing an unarmed teenager who did nothing but cross Zimmerman's path. This man, a veteran, the son of veterans, fired a warning shot in response to a crowd that was threatening to cause him severe bodily harm or death for no other reason than he was there. The aggressor admitted his intentions. The investigating officer recommended a severely reduced sentence. The court gave him 25 years. For those of us who pay attention to such things, this is right on the money:

For those of us who pay attention to such things, this is right on the money: The answer, basically,  is no.  When people are misinformed, giving them facts to correct those errors only makes them cling to their beliefs more tenaciously. People want to believe what they want to believe whether that's by nature or nurture. I'll leave that discussion to another day, but as anyone who's spent 5 seconds on the internet or in a crowded room full of dissenting opinions can attest, people don't want to be shown the light, they want to have their own beliefs reaffirmed, no matter how wrong or misguided those beliefs might be. Personally I call it circling the wagons . When pioneers moved west in wagon trains they would  'circle the wagons' against bandits, native tribes and other strangers -- they would guard their way of life from everyone else. People and organizations do this as well, most visibly, the police. When public outcry against police abuse is directed towar
