Coupons and Employee Education

A few months ago Pepsi had heavily promoted their PepsiMax product by giving away $1.00 off manufacturer's coupons on their 16oz bottles.  I was able to get a bunch of these coupons and had been using them a few times a week since March.  Today, June 30, 2010, was their official expiration date. I stopped at the gas station/convenience store that I normally get these Pepsi products at and bought one this morning. The store manager was there and teased me (they all know me for these coupons) that I should buy a bunch of them and stock up since today was their final day of usage.  I laughed and told him I'd be back in a couple of hours and buy one for tomorrow. Well, a few hours later I swung back into this convenience store with another coupon and exact change.  The guy behind the counter and I got along fairly well and he's notoriously in a good mood.  I brought the PepsiMax to the counter and dropped my coupon.  He said it was no longer valid.  I disagreed, telling him

Calvin Klein cologne attracts cougars!

No, not middle aged women after younger men, but real honest to goodness jaguars. No, not the British luxury car, but cats; the big ones. Scientists use Calvin Klein cologne to lure jaguars | Reuters That's awesome! I can see the advertising now: _Calivin Klein's Obesession helps you attract that dangerous p*ssy in leopard-print. BP buys internet searches

So much for the free flow of information. BP buys Google, Yahoo search words to keep people away from real news on Gulf oil spill disaster When your press is so incredibly bad you look like the biggest douche (or giant turd sandwich) this millenium (and that's saying a lot after eight years of Bush/Cheney conservatism), you have to restrict free access to information, right? That's what all the cool CEOs and political figures are doing. BP: you're shooting yourself in the foot. You're going from bumbling buffoons to evil bastards, and no one likes an evil bastard.

BP wants you to clean up after yourself if you spill the gasoline.  Apparently, it's corporate policy. Ha ha ha...!

Country Music is Depressing

No, seriously. Well, at least according to this study that states that where there is a higher rate of country music being played, there is a higher rate of suicides for white people. As bad as it'd made out to be?

I don't think his off-hand comment was nearly as discriminatory as the GLAAD blogger does, but it's FOXNews for crying out loud! I think it's part of their corporate mandate is to mention "al-Qaeda" and Sarah Palin every minute and a half or so. In my opinion, I don't think he was trying to compare the gay community to terrorists he was just saying, "If McDonald's has a 'come as you are' advertising campaign aimed at different cultures, do they have one aimed at al-Qaeda?" Bill O'Reilly and GLAAD Don't get me wrong, I can't decide if Bill O'Reilly is a Giant Douche or a Turd Sandwhich, I just think people are being overly sensitive to an off hand comment.

Stop! Hammer Time!

Okay, this is friggin awesome! The Dark Lord of the Sith does Hammer Time! Yes, I'm a Star Wars geek/fan to the point where I've read all (and I mean all) of the books.

Those were the days...

Remember the good ol' days? 25 Horribly Sexist Vintage Ads | I Can Has Internets Neither do I. I was born after the 1960's, after women's equality, after the civil rights movement. This sort of advertising is foreign to me and yet I know a lot of people who miss these days (they're usually Republicans). So, for those of you who study sociology, advertising or are feminists I bring you the past. Enjoy!

Can we no longer keep tabs on those watching us?

So, apparently the police forces around the country are getting tired of being embarrassed and convicted for what they could have in the past simply denied. Now, with the advent of tiny video recording devices, the police are in the cross-hairs and they don't like it. Are Cameras the New Guns? Not only that, but the courts, the very people who should be upholding the right of the people to monitor and record evidence in their own defense are supporting the police in regards to being recorded. I recently watched a video of a British Columbia police officer showing off his new toy: a camera system on his patrol car that can scan and identify up to 3,000 license plates an hour, so some such. And yet, when you want evidence that a the officer beat you and then arrested you for assault, you're the criminal. When you want proof the cop acted outside of his scope you're the criminal. What would have happened to Rodney King had no one recorded the police abuse? What would hav
