Why is it called firefly ? Simply put, the ship's the most important character, that's why. Read a chapter from the upcoming biography about Joss Whedon. So, I just watched #sharknado2 and this is how I would have live tweeted it, if I live tweeted things.

How I would Have Live Tweeted Sharknado 2: The Second One

Okay, so I'm sitting here watching Sharknado 2: The Second One on DVR. This is a beautiful mess! My friend just asked me, "Why is it just sharks?" I told her, "Sharks are heavier than fish." She then asked, "Then why not whales?" "Because Whalenado sounds stupid." Ha ha ha! --------------------------------------------------------- Ian Ziering's character's name if "Finn" because sharks have fins . --------------------------------------------------------- Tara Reid is one handed, Will Wheaton is dead. Richard Kind knocked one out of the park - literally. --------------------------------------------------------- Sharks eating alligators in the sewers! --------------------------------------------------------- "Maybe a hipster fell on the tracks, they're pretty light." Whew! Lots of new people to the community tonight. Welcome, guys! You know, every time I sit down to add people I notice two things: (1) People have nothing about motorcycle riding on their profile pages. No posts, nothing in about, no photos, no nothing. Aside from having a blue ghost for a profile picture, this is the second most surefire way to not get admitted. It' simple: fill out your About page. "I like motorcycle riding." Done. (2) There were a number of people who didn't make it this time who are motorcycle riders, who post and who are probably a good fit for the community. However, (there's always a but) it seems like they just go from one motorcycle community to the next posting the same post over and over and over again. I swear, one guy have 15 of the same posts across communities. All he did was share his original post over and over again. This isn't the Community to dump your stuff that no one else is looking at. Since starting this community, I

Read this. Jeremy Nixon hits the nail on the head in one smooth Mr. Myagi stroke. Originally shared by Jeremy Nixon It was the president’s signature health care law, and it wasn’t going well. The rollout was plagued with technical problems. The website didn’t work, and problems were rampant with back-end data. The call center was swamped. Consumers were confused, and poll numbers were terrible. Amid debate over whether it would even be legal, the president used executive action to change the timetable of the rollout, delaying some provisions and waiving penalties for non-participation. The Republican response was swift and predictable: They didn’t care at all, because this was George W. Bush delaying provisions of Medicare Part D, and it’s okay if you’re a Republican. Yesterday, the House voted, as expected, to authorize a lawsuit against the president for delaying the employer mandate in the Affordable Care Act. This despite the fact that the House passed a bill to delay the employer

I've seen this go around for the past day or two and it's annoying me. Let me be clear, introverts aren't loners. We're not sad animal hoarders and we're not reclusives. To be introvert doesn't mean we prefer the company of ourselves over the company of others. I'm really tired of that stereotype. We're just as social as anyone else, based on a wide assortment of conditions. Are we okay being alone? More than extroverts, sure. It's because we're more comfortable in our own heads. Being an introvert means we think things through. We don't "discuss" ideas and concepts to get a consensus, we don't have to hear the sound of our voices just to have something make sense and we don't have to fill the uncomfortable silence with words. We're people. We have friends, we go out to restaurants and bars, we take out children on play dates and we socialize. We just don't socialize the same way extroverts socialize. Many of you (

The Downside of a Good Deed

I'm at home, post lunch and pre-productivity. Don't ask. The TV is on in the background and the dogs were just given their noon-time cookies. I'd just fired up the laptop when the doorbell chimed. Both dogs went bananas and I tried to get to the FedEx guy before he dropped his package and left. You see, the FedEx guy is the only one who uses the doorbell, most other people knock. I'm not sure why that is, honestly. Is it because most homes in this neighborhood don't have bells and the one here is aftermarket? Is it because the doorbell's color matches the surrounding trim work and therefore seems camouflaged? Regardless, I shoo'd the dogs out of the way and opened the door, not to a dark blue uniformed FedEx employee, but to two dark blue uniformed Aurora police officers. They were here in regards to a situation that took place nearly a month ago . My neighbors are loud and vulgar. They scream and yell at each other at all hours with offenses like &q

Friday Night Wedding

Image
A friend of mine got married last night. He's known this woman for 13 years (according to her) and been dating her for about two, after her divorce. He asked her to marry him on her birthday in December and then sent out the invites with a 90 day notice. That's right, 90 days from invitation to showtime. Well, last night was the big event. I readied my dSLR for the event even though I wasn't asked to shoot it and promptly ran out the door making it halfway there before I realized I left it sitting next to the door. Ugh. Anywho, I grabbed these two really quick with my phone. Both are cropped to remove elbows and whatnot so they won't zoom very well. That's my friend Dani on the right and his bride, Sasha, on the left.
Off to a wedding. Yes, on a Friday and yes, at 6PM on a Friday.

For those of you who actually read my rantings, you know Maps is my most hated Google service.

For those of you who actually read my rantings, you know Maps is my most hated Google service. It seems like every iteration of maps makes using it much more difficult, especially for consumers. Chances are, if I was a web developer, the new Maps would be fine, but I'm not. I'm just a person who wants to explore scenic driving directions, alternate routes and sites of interest. None of which Google makes easy. I'm sort of reminded of Microsoft Office. Microsoft has added and prioritized so many features in their Office Suite 98% of us don't use on a regular (or ever) basis, thus making it clunky and convoluted. Which is why most of us have left office for simpler options. You know, like Drive. And yet with Maps, Google has gone the other direction. Searching for an address is a piece of cake. Searching nearby? Sure, whatever. Want to plan a trip with primary and alternate routes? I'd rather take a sledgehammer to my computer than use Maps. Even when using Maps to t

Dear Google Maps

Dear  +Google Maps I sent feedback from the mobile app last weekend regarding a restaurant that didn't seem to exist any longer. You see, I was trying to find this restaurant after having read a 4 year old review on a local dining blog . Yet, I found myself driving around in circles for a few minutes trying to find this restaurant, even though no restaurant with that name seemed to exist. However, I finally found a  restaurant at the address, but not Los Farolitos . As you can see by the Google+ page for the restaurant, there are no reviews and no one from the restaurant has taken ownership of the site, leaving me to believe the place hasn't had any customers in quite some time. Even your very own streetview photo of the location is three years old: September 2011 That being said, the location listed as Los Farolitos is now occupied by a place called Juan's Something or Another. Yes, it is still a restaurant, but no longer Los Farolitos. In fact, I can't fi

Just a Walk

Took the dogs to the park this morning only to realize I forgot the off-leash pass. Oops. So, I broke the rules and used the park anyway, watching for rangers or anyone else who might be checking passes. As it turns out, no rangers were present. Since I didn't have my pass we didn't stay in the off-leash area long but instead exited and walked in on-leash areas. Luckily for us I had the longer leashes with me, grabbed mby mistake instead of the shorter dog park designated leashes. The dogs were excited. Everything smelled new and fresh lacking the aromas of hundreds of other dogs who pass through the off-leash area on a daily basis. Now they had the scents of wildlife, untouched (or rather, unpeed on) flora and trails that rarely see the footprint of Man much less dog. We walked the long way and eventually found ourselves on trails none of us had ever traveled before today. For the dogs it was exciting and new, for me it was a reminder to step off the beaten path and explor

Tower One

Took the Pentax out for a while today and filled the memory card (a couple of times). That is, I didn't start off with an empty one, made some space by deleting a bunch of images, took a bunch of photos and then had to delete some more, etc. The image below, however, was captured and uploaded from mobile. The sky had some great texture tonight and I happened to be at the base of Plaza Tower One. Unfortunately, my dSLR was full so I grabbed this little gem with my Note II. I wish I'd left a bit more sky at the top, but what are you gonna do? As always, edited (not much) with Snapseed and uploaded on the go.

Goofygus

Image
Goofygus Just like the nearly 365 other days of the year, I took Rufus for a walk about an hour or so after his evening meal. We didn't go far, just to a nearby park where I let him run around off leash for a few minutes. While he was rolling around in the grass I saw something I'd always wanted a picture of but have never been able to get. Rufus hates the camera. He really does. It doesn't matter if it's my Pentax or my Android. As soon as he sees the camera in my hand he turns away. Today I didn't have my dSLR, just my Android, so I grabbed a couple of quick shots, much to his dismay. I had to hold him down with one hand while I snapped with the other (which isn't easy to do on a 5.2" touchscreen, by the way). Anywho, this is one of two images I captured that I liked enough to share. Why Goofygus ? Years ago Rufus was acting goofier than usual so I gave him a slight nickname. As always, edited with Snapseed.

They were playing patriotic songs as well as some of John Williams' finest from Star Wars and Indiana Jones to E.T.: The Extraterrestrial. They were handing out little Stars and Stripes (of which I took a picture), the concert venue and a few of the fireworks display.

Most recently I had a woman tell me to mind my own business and yet, it seems when you're dragging an abusive boyfriend off his girlfriend, the desire to have your peers mind their own business fades into the background. Sometimes you have to get involved, even when there's no direct benefit to your self and yet most people will gladly tell themselves, "It's not my problem" or "Don't get involved, I don't need the headache" or "What about repercussions of being involved." Anywho, for those of you who are long time fans, you already know I'm not one to shy away from intervening. Even today.

Neighbor Kid and Parental Emulation

Image
I have neighbors. Yes, yes, I understand most of us have neighbors in one form or another, but I have neighbors . Let me explain, About 18 months ago two women moved into the condo complex I live in. They are renters and are renting out a two bed, two bath condo catty-corner from where I live, their front door not 30 feet from my own. Not that it matters, but I will tell you anyway, they are a lesbian couple. They have a child, a two to three year old boy who smiles and laughs as he rides his bike around the sidewalks. Since they moved in my roommate and I have been prisoners in our own home. Not because they stalk or attack us, but because they're always outside (smoking) and they're always loud. Very loud. They don't appear to have any consideration for their nearby neighbors, common decency or any desire to adhere to basic community rules against noise violations. This becomes especially burdensome when one or both of them have been drinking or are partaking in Color

Rufus and the Mirror

Image
Met this girl at the dog park earlier today who has a dog very similar to Rufus. Her dog happens to be a bit taller and Rufus has longer fur, but otherwise they're nearly identical (if you don't take color into account, which you shouldn't). Both have the same mottled feet, the same tail, the same ears and eyes. She said her dog was probably a setter or spaniel mix. I just had to agree with her, I usually refer to Rufus as an Aussie/Setter mix. When I adopted Rufus from the shelter I'd hoped at the time he'd grow a bit taller to be more in line with her dog's height, but he never did. He's actually perfectly proportional but with his longer body hair his legs appear shorter than they are making him seem goofily proportioned. ;)

Anywho, here's a flower from this morning while out walking the dog.
