#DonaldTrump is protecting his investment. White House Counsel Don McGahn (pictured above), the Trump administration’s point person for Kavanaugh’s nomination, has also given the FBI a list of permitted witnesses to interview, NBC News reported. Two unnamed sources briefed on the matter told NBC News it was unclear whether the FBI would be able to contact additional individuals who may be able to corroborate existing interviewees’ claims, if they are not covered by the White House’s rules. I strongly disagree with much of what Eliot Cohen defines as Conservatism , but these points ring true: During the Ford and Kavanaugh testimonies, Americans watched the cranky maunderings of Senator Chuck Grassley and the spitting, menacing fury of Senator Lindsey Graham. The combination of calm strength and good humor that characterized the modern conservative icon, Ronald Reagan, was nowhere to be found. But that spirit, the spirit of a president who celebrated America as a city on a hill that was generous abroad, welcoming to newcomers, and self-confident at home, has been replaced by the sour meanness of a party chiefly of men, who build walls to keep the world out, erect tariffs to destroy free trade, despise the alliances that keep Americans secure, and sanction the deliberate plucking of babes from their mothers’ breasts in order to teach illegal immigrants a painful lesson. In such a world, decorum and courtesy are irrelevant. There has always been a dark side to American conse

This is what the rush is about. Yes, they want him to overturn Roe, yes they want him to drag us all back, but they need him seated for October to rule on that specific case. At stake is the "separate sovereigns" exception to double jeopardy. If he (and the other 4 conservative judges) vote to overrule it, people given presidential pardons for federal crimes cannot be tried for that crime at the state level. Bam. Trump can pardon the lot of them and they have nothing to fear from state's attorneys. Building off my previous post, #TrumpNation was never supposed to succeed. Millions of people were duped into supporting a persona cultivated on TV under the impression such persona was decisive, authoritative and competent. They were wrong. Seeing Bannon, Trump turned on him and screamed: "Why are you letting him steal my fucking money?" Bannon and Christie together set out to explain to Trump federal law. Months before the election, the law said, the nominees of the two major parties were expected to prepare to take control of the government. The government supplied them with office space in downtown DC, along with computers and rubbish bins and so on, but the campaigns paid their people. To which Trump replied: "Fuck the law. I don’t give a fuck about the law. I want my fucking money." Bannon and Christie tried to explain that Trump couldn’t have both his money and a transition. I've said it before, I'll say it again and I'll probably end up saying yet more: #DonaldTrump never wanted to be president. Not only is our president a #GlobalIdiot, but he's in way over his head. In an account of Trump's unexpected win and chaotic transition into the White House, Lewis wrote that after clinching Pennsylvania's electoral votes at 1:35 a.m. on November 9, thereby winning the election, Trump "just stared at the TV without saying anything, like a man with a pair of twos whose bluff has been called." I would argue this is probably true.

I would argue this is probably true. It is still more socially acceptable for a woman to hit a man than it is for a man to, well, do just about anything. Students were asked if they had been purposefully hit, slapped or physically hurt by a boyfriend or girlfriend in the past year. In all three of the surveys, boys reported higher rates of dating victimization than girls. For instance in 2013, one in 14 boys reported dating victimization compared to one in 25 girls. It could be that boys have been taught not to physically lash out against a dating partner, whereas it is still more socially acceptable for adolescent girls to hit or slap boys in dating relationships. I was going to post this last night, but I got distracted (as I tend to do) during research. I'm starting a new job today. It'll be my first FTE in a decade as opposed to 1099 work. I'll be in training for a few weeks but then I'll be tied to a desk making sales calls. The company is rated one of Denver's "top workplaces" which is the only reason I accepted the position as it's also a 60 mile drive each way (at the moment). (I'm also about to be homeless, but that's another story) So, I gave myself nearly two hours to get here and it took just over an hour and a quarter. Not as bad as I'd thought but it hasn't started snowing yet. Last night I was going to post with a link to one of this company's national ad campaigns but when I plugged the company's name into YouTube the first video was a 20 min complaint session by a customer. No bueno. I then spent the next hour or so reading reviews to remind myself I made a good choice. No

Now she is and, for better or worse, Marvel is betting the second generation of it's MCU on her character. “Carol falls down all the time, but she always gets back up,” DeConnick told the video game website. “We say that about Captain America as well, but Captain America gets back up because it’s the right thing to do. Twenty-six of these wells have already gone in, some as near to their fence-line as 1000ft, which doesn't seem close until it's your backyard. Other wells even closer to the local playground. I stopped and asked her if it was from this year (it's second annual) or the previous year. She said this year. So I told her I was one of the photographers. That, I can honestly say, was a first for me. No, we weren't allowed to keep any of the photos. They gave us SD cards and collected them at the end.

The latest figures demonstrate the continued growth of this population just one week after the New York Timesreported that the number of detained immigrant children in the U.S. has soared to record highs over the last year, from 2,400 children in May of 2017 to 12,800 earlier this month. Last week, HHS confirmed its plan to extend use of an emergency shelter in Tornillo, Texas, for the third time since it opened in June, and expand capacity at the “tent city” from 400 to 3,800 beds. "Needless to say, there's a huge difference between an isolated slip of the tongue and ceaseless, shameless, and witless prevarication on virtually all topics, large and small," Conway responded. More recently, I was having a discussion about slips of the tongue and the person I was speaking with reiterated that sentiment: politicians should be perfect and not make mistakes. This is absurd. No human is perfect and if we expect perfection from any class of people we only push them to be more reclusive while handing out talking points pre-approved by the public affairs committee. We should indeed hold elected officials to a high standa

Aside from the video games comment (I prefer reading) and not going out (I enjoy being out and about) this is a fairly accurate description of me: _ INTP Becoming close friends with an INTP can be a challenge. Most people are kept at a certain distance outside the INTP’s discomfort zone. When they encounter someone with whom they share common interest and similar thinking styles, the quiet and reserved INTP may become surprisingly enthusiastic and chatty. As a friend, the INTP rarely initiates get-togethers but is usually willing to hangout when invited. They mostly like discussing intellectually/philosophically rich topics, chilling at bookstores and libraries and playing video games. INTPs tend to be homebodies though. They don’t like to disappoint friends but may sometimes back out from or cancel engagemeny._ Originally shared by Astroligion https://astroligion.com/mbti-type-like-friend/

People in prisons are still people and places along the coast need to have emergency plans in place to evacuate them if needed. On Monday, South Carolina officials announced they would not remove inmates from at least two prisons inside mandatory evacuation zones. "In the past, it's been safer to leave them there," a spokesman for the South Carolina Department of Corrections said. Lots of good stuff in this piece.

Lots of good stuff in this piece. The Founders’ greatest failure of imagination was in not anticipating the rise of mass political parties. The first parties played an unexpected cooling function, uniting diverse economic and regional interests through shared constitutional visions. After the presidential election of 1824, Martin Van Buren reconceived the Democratic Party as a coalition that would defend strict construction of the Constitution and states’ rights in the name of the people, in contrast to the Federalist Party, which had controlled the federal courts, represented the monied classes, and sought to consolidate national power. As the historian Sean Wilentz has noted, the great movements for constitutional and social change in the 19th century—from the abolition of slavery to the Progressive movement—were the product of strong and diverse political parties. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2018/10/james-madison-mob-rule/568351/

More than a millennium ago in what’s now southeastern Sweden, a wealthy Viking warrior was laid to rest, in a resplendent grave filled with swords, arrowheads, and two sacrificed horses. I'm just going to park this here so those who say the strong economy is the result of a #DonaldTrump presidency can know some facts instead of merely outlandish claims. As the graphs (and you'll have to click through to see those) show, the economy clearly began it's upward swing during the Obama years.
