Because I'm bored.

Because I'm bored. This is a Android shot from last weekend (Saturday at Cherry Creek State Park). I came upon this shell while out walking at the dog park, snapped a picture edited in Snapseed and shared it. This is an edit using the Creative Kit in the G+ gallery. Why? Why not?

A friend of mine has a co-worker who's one of those staunch libertarians mainly due to his ignorance on a variety of subjects. I went to a party at his house once. It was the first and last time I ever met the guy in person.  During our one conversation he proudly proclaimed his anti-recycling policy of refusing to even use the recycling bins provided for free by the city or to use recycling at the office. He also bragged about being energy wasteful and littering when and where he wanted. Like I said, I've never spoken to him since. I don't think he's like it very much, especially if I'm not a guest in his home. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/04/30/1205911/-Conservatives-less-likely-to-buy-same-lightbulbs-if-you-tell-them-it-will-help-the-environment

One of my largest pet peeves on social media is the link-share no comment I see running rampant.

One of my largest pet peeves on social media is the link-share no comment I see running rampant. What's a link-share, no comment ? Well, Timmy, that's when someone shares a link, either from Reader, from mobile or from manually adding it to the comment box, allowing Google (FB, wherever) to pull the title and lead paragraph/sentence and sharing it to their followers without adding a comment of their own. Some people have tried to circumvent the "no comment" by copying and pasting a paragraph or a sentence from the article, something they think is profound and attention-grabbing, as their personal comment, but anyone who actually reads the article linked to can clearly see the blatant copy and paste. These things annoy me. If you're going to share content, at least let your followers know why you're sharing it. Do you agree, disagree? Problem with the reasoning or logic? Find the subject matter interesting -- why? I've unfollowed a few people for their link

Putting the cost of American healthcare into perspective. Let's put it another way: imagine a pay-email (such as an ISP's email) lobbying the FCC and congress to banish "free" services like Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook/Hotmail. Which D&D Character am I?

According to this test ,  I Am A: Neutral Good Human Druid (6th Level) From my visit to Stonehenge, 1997 Ability Scores: Strength- 12 Dexterity- 13 Constitution- 13 Intelligence- 17 Wisdom- 14 Charisma- 13 Alignment: Neutral Good A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment when it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable. Race: Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like. Class: Druids gain power not by ruling nature but by bei

Yesterday at the dog park I caught a flash of light from the corner if my eye. I looked and found the source but for the life of me I couldn't figure out what was making the flash. Another walker saw the same thing and we talked about it for a moment before she moved on. Could it be camera flash? We were a fair distance away and it was still fairly bright. I thought gunshots, but the color seemed wrong and there was no sound (silencer also equals flash suppressor). The TV or house lights wouldn't flash this bright. Anywho, what do you guys think?

On Thursday, April 25th, at 9 PM Eastern, we'll be having a hangout with Jim Butcher. Jim is the author of the Dresden Files series. The hangout will last for about a half hour. I need some questions to ask him. Can you folks help me out? These should be questions about his work-- not about writing. Please leave your question as a comment on this post. Thanks!

Wow.

Wow. Two (confirmed) bombs explode at the #BostonMarathon and at least one that has been found unexploded (according to various news sources).  This is amazing and tragic at the same time: amazing that, in the aftermath of 9/11 and all the rights we've lost to the war on terror that a person or people can still create and carry explosives to attack innocent bystanders; and tragic for the lives lost, the sense of security lost and the the repercussions of this event.

The Christian Bible, like any other book, is under copyright monopoly - or, to be precise, any translation of it younger than 100 years or so is under copyright monopoly, and people quoting extensively from the Christian Bible brings in big licensing money to the copyright monopoly holders. Activists decided this was not in tune with the religion and decided to create a free alternative, only to be met with a threat of lawsuit. http://falkvinge.net/2013/04/15/creators-of-public-domain-bible-threatened-with-lawsuit-by-other-bibles-copyright-monopoly-holders/ http://falkvinge.net/2013/04/15/creators-of-public-domain-bible-threatened-with-lawsuit-by-other-bibles-copyright-monopoly-holders/

Found this via Yonatan Zunger I love history, especially this detailed history about forgotten peoples and cultures, not just the American-centric or European-centric history most of us learn in schools. Until this morning I'd never heard of the Sabines and had never considered the ebb and flow of people and cultures in the BCE Middle-East who shared different parts of their cultures to create wholly new ones. Amazing! But there's a missing Abrahamic religion -- a fourth Abrahamic religion -- which no one knows much about. Because history has a tendency to destroy information, this is the only firm fact we know: around 600 AD, when explaining to his followers which religions they had to tolerate, Mohammad called the

So, I had this problem since updating to the Note II and it really bothered me. Not so much that I've addressed it in the past couple of months, but I was bored and decided to look up the solution earlier today. This post is (1) for me, in case I ever need to do this again and (2) a way to get through all the clutter of a message board or two and consolidate the answer that worked best for me into one simple set of steps. Maybe it will help you, too. http://jasonisms.blogspot.com/2013/04/google-voicemail-and-your-android.html

Google Voicemail and Your Android

Image
I have been an Android user since the first Android,  +T-Mobile 's G1. I've also been a Google Voice user since that service was announced and those of us not special could grab out GV numbers. As soon as the GV app for Android became available I downloaded it to my G1 and used it for making and receiving calls. When I upgraded to the G2 a couple of years later, I downloaded the GV app again. Easy, peasy, one, two, threesy. At no time was there an issue with setting up GV voicemail to circumvent the carrier's standard voice mail system. I am a fan of using Google's voice for my voicemail needs for a number of reasons: email notification and (let's say) attempt to transcribe the message; an mp3 file of the message for future record; and more control. I like control. When I purchased the Note II from  +T-Mobile  I quickly downloaded the app and set up the device to use Google's Voice for voicemail. Unfortunately, it never took. Although the s
