If you live in Denver and didn't go out to see that sunset you did yourself a disfavor. I would have taken pictures but I was out on the motorcycle and it's just a little too hard to do when you're on a motorcycle, especially when you don't have your camera with you. :D

Remember the thing with the camera? This is more important. Let's find this sweetie her home. Originally shared by Manny Flores CALLING SAN JOSE Today I walked outside my home in Downtown San Jose to find this beautiful girl on my doorstep. We call her Sarah as she has no other means of identification. She is very friendly and seems to like kids, so I'm assuming she belongs to a family. But I'm also assuming she's been lost for days now. She is very skinny and smells pretty bad. The last few days have been rough on her and you can tell. I had no luck locating her family so I'm calling on you G+. Share this post and let's not see if we can locate her home. If you look closely at her hind-quarters you'll see that she seems to have been badly injured in a fight. Her back legs and tail were soaked in blood and she can barely stand on her right leg. She also might be suffering from internal injuries. She is now at an emergency animal hospital in south San Jose

So, I went to this 24Hour Fitness this morning to take a shower and whatnot (since I'm homeless and slept in my truck in the freezing cold) and I saw one of the scariest sights imaginable. This tall lanky guy was walking around the sauna/steam room area in what appeared to be a zebra-striped thong speedo-type thing. Apparently he was very proud of his butt tattoos which were very very evident, as well as the lower back, upper thigh and nearly everything in between. I asked a girl who was sitting in the hot tub if that was even remotely attractive and she said, not 'no,' but hell, no ! I don't know if the guy was European and thought that his state of dress was okay, or if he was showing off his wares or what, but I can never un-see that. http://maps.google.com/maps/place?q=24+hour+fitness&hl=en&cid=1179915439992132565

Great article looking at the Occupy movement from the perspective of a non-American journalist.

Great article looking at the Occupy movement from the perspective of a non-American journalist. I didn't know anything about DHS giving municipalities money and training to suppress peaceful protesters; how Congress and the president have turned a blind eye and how the police and local authorities are going to lose the support of the journalists and one they do the Occupy movement will take on a whole new guise from the news sources. Took the K5 Out

Image
Finally had a chance to take the K5 out for a few shot this morning. Wow. Compared to my *IstDS it is amazing. Sort of like a Ferrari compared to a 1977 Ford Bronco. Here are some images from today. None of them are special, I was just practicing with the knobs and buttons.

Dammit! Still Waiting...

Been charging the battery for a few hours now. Argh! This is not fast enough! I want to play with my new K5! Reading a manual can only do so much. That's one benefit of the *Ist DS over any of the more modern cameras: AA. No, not A lcoholic's A nonymous, but rather AA batteries. Since the DS runs on AA's, no matter if my rechargeable's were charged or not, I could always throw some new batteries in for instant access to the camera. Now I have to wait. Sure, in my bundle that I bought I received a couple of spare batteries (2, in fact, for a total of 3) but they all need to be charged. And yes, I checked: I cannot toss AAs in the battery compartment which would have been nice. I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow for taking the first images. Argh! Who's not a happy camper right now? I'm  not a happy camper right now!

Arrival!

Arrival of the K5 was as simple as opening the door to the UPS man. I unpacked the box (the deal I got had a lot of extras)  and while the battery is charging, I am reading the manual. About 350 pages! I've read novels with less pages! This camera has many many many more features and options than my poor *Ist DS does. The the DS has very basic features, nearly the same as one would find on a film SLR camera. The K5 seems to have so many more options! I better not lose the manual.
Just received my K5. Reading TF Manual right now.

Waiting sucks

Twelve days ago I bought a Pentax K5 (online) to replace my Pentax *Ist DS that I've owned since 2006. According to Amazon.com my order was shipped on November 10, however it didn't start UPS tracking until six days later with " Shipment has left seller facility and is in transit ."  Grrr! And  they gave themselves a week window for deliver with today being the last day of that week. As of this morning, it is out for delivery: November 22, 2011 04:48:00 AM Commerce City CO US Out for delivery Here it is, 11 hours later and nothing. Nothing! I don't want to leave the house (much to the dismay of my dog) in case I miss the UPS guy. I'm not sure if he'll leave it on the porch or if he'll leave a note saying "sorry we missed you."  It needs to hurry up and get here! I'm losing light, dammit!

The Wonder of the 90s -- in no particular order

Image
So, I was watching something VH1 called 40 Greatest One Hit Wonders of the 90s  or something to that effect. Anywho, I was in my 20s during a vast majority of the 90s and still like the music from that decade. Yes, I'm getting old. Don't get me wrong, there is some good modern music, too, but the 90s saw the end of hair bands and the beginning of grunge, saw the death of the power-ballad (thank the gods) and we saw rap mature a little more. I think we also had a little more variation in tunes than we're hearing today.  Oh, and  alternative  rock. I love alternative rock. These days they call it just plain old rock.  There are about 20 more songs VH1 went over in their 40 One Hit Wonders of the 90s  than I share here, but I wasn't paying too  close of attention to the show.  1.  This is just a fun tune that make me want to go to the beach. I don't know what, maybe because they're singing about sunshine, maybe it's because I associate sunshi

NookColor CM7 - Review

So, I've been using my NookColor CM7 loaded tablet for a few days now. My thoughts on it are this: I think it's great as a simple cloud and information device. It allows me to easily check my social networks, look at GMaps, peruse my email and a few other things that I do a lot from my Android phone anyway. However, as a production device, it is seriously lacking. It has no microphone for voice commands or input and the screen is not as responsive as I would like. Not to mention typing on it, while easier than on my Android since the buttons are larger, is not easy and I find a lot words are being replaced because Android doesn't recognize them, a la  auto-correction on iOS. And I guess I'm just old school in that I prefer typing with both my hands on a keyboard than typing with my thumbs on a screen which may work well on a smartphone for shirt quick replies, longer replies or created content gets tedious. I don't ever foresee tablets replacing a computer, bu

This is hardware that measures the colors shown on the screen and creates a color profile. Existing hardware is proprietary and 100% closed, and my hardware has a GPL bootloader, GPL firmware image and GPL hardware schematics and PCBs. The right of the public to record in public.

The right of the public to record in public. Some jurisdictions are fighting the rights of the individual to record public proceedings in public while at the same time installing more and more cameras to provide evidence in prosecutions. This always reeks of circling the wagons to me. The police and politicians are out there protecting themselves from you and me while at the same time trying to take away your rights in the name of safety and security. Does anyone else see the irony here? A nation "of the people, by the people and for the people," are making sure the people have less and less rights while at the same time retaining and expanding their own rights to do the same. And when they're called out? They circle the wagons. Instead of claiming that citizens executing their rights have brought police brutality, aggression and negligence to the fore and aided in civic managers to train their officers better to reduce those actions, they're claiming it hampers their

This seemed to work for me and I wanted to share some non-developer directions for rooting my Nook Color (v1.2) henceforth known as NC. For the most part I followed these directions: XDA-Developers  but there are some parts to the those instructions that I found were confusing or not non-developer friendly. You should have a PC available and a class 4 or higher microSD card. I used a class 10 8gig card.
