Went Camping

Image
A lot has happened in the past month and I decided to reward myself with a few days away from the world - I went camping.  I spent each night in a new place, got a sunburn and read a 600+ page novel and it was fun. First night was just up the mountain from Idaho Springs, CO so I could come down quickly the next day and take a video call.  The next night was spent at about 12,000 feet above sea level. It was cold at night and even during the day in the shade. I had to sit in the sun just to stay warm and, well, that's where the sunburn came from.  At night you could see the greater Denver metro area's suburbs from this view. Third night was from this old staple. I wanted somewhere a little lower in elevation so it wouldn't be so cold overnight, which this was,  but I ended up at a slight angle and couldn't sleep well through the night because I kept rolling to the right.    Saw this monstrosity in Glenwood Springs, CO when

Underwater

I really enjoy this movie and am watching it again at this very moment. If I remember correctly, it's the last movie I saw in a theater before Covid shut everything down. And if you're wondering, the next movie in a theater was Black Widow from a couple of weeks ago.  I think one of the reasons It horoighly enjoy this film is because none of the characters make around decisions. Usually in adventure/horror films the characters are running around making every dumb decision the writers and director can imagine. Here, they're not.  Have you seen it? What did you think? https://youtu.be/jCFWEzIVILc

Them Thar Mountains

Image
Just outside my truck last evening. For the past few weeks, whenever the weather became too hot, I'd decided to go into the mountains where the elevation keeps the air a little cooler. For example, a couple of weeks ago, when the temperatures in Denver were about 100 degrees Fahrenheit I headed up to the mountains for some much needed relief. The temperatures where I went were in the low-70s. A stark contrast to the sweltering heat in the greater metropolitan area.  I decided to go again these past couple of days and while I didn't share any photos from previous trips, I decided to share a couple from this outing because ... well, why not? I shared a couple to Twitter and other social networks (don't worry, I didn't go back to FB) and only yesterday remembered I have a blog.  Yes, yes, I'm an idiot, but who really reads blogs anymore? It's all short posts and memes. On this particular trip, I spent the first night in a very busy place and that's not what I w

Strangers Aren't Always Bad

With an hour to kill between appointmen😆😃 decided to stop and grab a quick bite 😀to eat at a fast food joint. I won't mention the name of the place, but they serve tacos and their name doesn't start with "T".  One of the things I enjoy the most is the fries they serve. Thy are crinkle cut 😆😃⬇️, which is good for texture (for those of us who like texture in our foods), thick enough to be sturdy for holding ketchup and long enough that you can usually get a couple of bites out of one fry.  Not wanting anything more than a order of fries and an soda, I decided to stop and eat. Inside, there was a woman and an older man seated at one of the tables with computers and spreadsheets out around them. I assumed the woman to be the General Manager of this particular location and the man as maybe a district manager.  I went to the counter, ordered a medium fries, their mocha coffee thing and a breakfast wrap. The order took a minute to get to me and when she set the fries on

A Gift

Last week, with the weather hitting triple digits here in Colorado, I decided to spend a few days in the high country where it was cooler.  As I walked around a trail I came upon this stack of stumps that had been piled by the forest service. This cross hatch caught my attention and I couldn't help but grab an quick snap.  This was taken with my Android as I didn't have my Pentax with me, but a friend saw it and said she thought it was wonderful so I had a print made and gave it to her.  She has to find her own frame so I haven't seen the final iteration yet.

Decided to come over to Moab, UT for my birthday (which is today). Here are some photos: Colorado: And then, Utah:

Found and Delivered

Image
Driving down the road about 30 minutes ago and I see what looks like a cellphone in the middle of a fairly busy intersection where two two-lane roads meet.  I pull to the side, park and walk over to the intersection before hopping out and picking it up before the next wave of traffic cones through.  Not only if it s cellphone but it's one of those book  style cases where the phone is on one side with slots for credit cards, ID, etc. on the other.  In there was a driver's license, a credit/debit card, Costco card and more. In the past, before "smart" phones I'd dial 611 from a found phone and get in touch with the carrier who would then contact the owner for me  But this girl was smart, she had a PIN lock on her phone.  So, I decided to take the phone to the local police department hoping they could get it back to her.  After delivering the phone to a Community Services officer it occurred to me that I had this girl's address and could have delivered it myself.

Went Camping

Went on a quick overnight camping trip. It was nice and quiet even though there were some people behaving oddly that came by for a minute.  These photos are from the next morning.

Um ... I'm Certain That's a Diesel

I'm fairly certain that giant truck is powered by diesel, not prayers or faith.

Lost Faith in T-Mobile as a Great Customer Experience

Image
I can’t believe I’m taking time out of my day to write this up, but here I am. Today is the 17th of March, 2021.  On 14JAN2021 I ported my number over to at&t when I joined a corporate plan. The following day I swung by a T-Mobile store to pay my account off. I figured it would be just a couple of days worth as my billing cycle ended on the 10th of the month.  I was told I had to wait for the current billing cycle to end before they could accept payment for any prorated charges. Fair enough. This was a stupid policy, but I didn’t argue. In early February I went to another T-Mobile store and was told my final bill was an entire month’s worth of service. I explained how this didn’t make sense, but the kid tried to explain to me that with T-Mobile’s billing cycle you pay for the month before the one that just ended, not the month you’re going into. So, you’re paying two months ago’s service, not paying for the upcoming month. Okay … This didn’t make sense, but sure. Since I had termin

Finally Found a Google Maps Artifact

Image
I was perusing around on Google Maps and saw this rainbow airplane flying over Parker, CO. Which isn't too far from reality as just to the north there is a local airport . But, it's still fun to see the colors off the airplane in flight.

Accidentally Grabbed

Image
Let me apologize for my inactivity. I've been extremely exhausted these past 10 days or so and haven't been capable of stringing a coherent sentence together. Luckily, today's post is mostly just an image. This was caught this moening by accident and I thought it was interesting enough to share. A screen capture by accident:

So Tired of Manufactured Rage

I don't normally read the kinds of articles that have a Kardashian in the title, but this one I opened due to the cultural appropriation  claims. Don't get me wrong - I vaguely know who Kendall Jenner is just because her name comes up in pop culture news articles, I just don't know much about her otherwise. For example, I know she's related to the Kardashians but I'm not sure how as her last name isn't "Kardashian". Why were people upset that Kendall Jenner started a tequila company? That's what I wanted to know. People start liquor companies every single day from the gazillions of micro-brews across the US to the start-up distilleries across the globe. So, why was this particular instance different? From what I read in the article people are upset that a non-Mexican (or person of non-Mexican decent) started a company closely associated with Mexican heritage. And my question was: who cares? The outrage this caused reeks of what I refer to

Google Makes Shit Difficult

Image
Google likes to make things more difficult than they need to be. As a security precaution I turn off automatically showing images in Gmail. Not only does this help protect against nefarious intrusions into your device, but it also helps slower connections stay speedy.  Recently (as in this morning) I accidentally turned off the image blocking feature for one email sender and Google took that to mean all images would now be shown from that sender going forward.  That's not what I wanted. So, I tried to find the turn images back off  feature, which was hard to find as it wasn't clearly defined in the Settings under General or per the individual email address.  Not only that, but when I went to Help and searched, all Google had available to help  me was the How-To to turn feature on or off, not how to reactivate the feature for a single email sender.  For the record, toggling this setting on/off for the entirety of Gmail didn't work either.  Neither did searching t

A Room With a View

A cold front moved through North America this past weekend causing snow in such unlikely places as Texas and Louisiana. I was having a bit of cabin fever and decided to drive through the Rocky Mountain National Wildlife Refuge . The bison were out in force but unfortunately my DSLR was in the back of the truck and I couldn't get to it safely with the bison so near.  So, I have a couple of phone shots.  The weather at 1PM on Sunday, in case you were wondering.
