I remember when this was announced and some naysayers (read: generals and colonels and military strategists) claimed an "all purpose" aircraft was a bad idea and others said this will revolutionize air warfare. Does anyone have a good reference for private corporations that want to do business with non-profits, specifically their boards of directors? What I'm trying to find (and I've searched Google, but apparently without the right keywords) is a guide for vendors who want to secure non-profit contracts. So far all I've seen are articles and blog posts about when or if a non-profit should outsource. I consult with a non-profit occasionally and they have a quasi vendor who's going about securing the bid, invoicing and completing the work completely wrong and now he's trying to threaten legal action. All because he doesn't understand the difference between working with a private business and a non-profit BoD. What is a quasi vendor , you might ask? There may be a better name for the relationship, but for this instance it means a vendor who was told by a single board member to start bidding on contracts, has only been awarded one - which he failed to deliver - but has

I think Mike Elgan summed it up best. Originally shared by Mike Elgan Why the Supreme Court's ruling on gay marriage is a huge victory for straight people. Celebrations and congratulations abound online over the Supreme Court's ruling that gay marriage is legal in all 50 states.  Most feel that it's an enormous win for gay people who want to get married, which (obviously) it is.  But as good as most Americans feel about what this means for our gay family and friends, the truth is that its effect on people who are actually gay and who will actually get married is only one part of what happened today.  The larger event is that in a huge test of the Constitution, the principle of equality emerged victorious.  The Constitution is pretty fucking clear on equality. The 14th Amendment says: "No state shall... deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." You have on the one side the mere idea of equality enshrined into the Constitution, a

After paying up front and an initial brisk exchange of emails, including a pencil concept sketch, ol' Rob went, as we used to say in the Navy when describingd a ship that has lost main power, 'warm, dark and quiet'. He just wasn't there and I couldn't raise him by email at all. After a few months of this I did the basic due diligence that I should have performed at the outset. I found multiple pages of authors and fans describing exactly my experience with Rob Quill. Payment in full, a concept sketch and then radio silence. So, this is my cousin, Tommy. He's about 8 or 9 years older than me and ... well, I'll keep my personal opinions to myself. Regardless, his mother is my aunt and she's a very sweet woman who has already been through a lot recently. For example, she'll be here in Denver next week - maybe, after this - to help disperse the ashes of her sister, my other aunt, who died last year. Of four uncles, I only have one left on that side of the family, the rest, her brothers, having died from various causes over the years. My aunt, Tommy's mom, has raised three children, and currently has two grandchildren, Tommy and his fiance living with her, in a house that is dangerously close to falling into an old mine that decided to collapse recently. She was never "well off" and being retired, but with a part time cashier's job, she has very limited funds to bring to the table.  Tommy's been married before - twice, I think - one ending when the woman died, the other .

Occasionally I get asked why I can't support the death penalty. This is why. That was the dumbest list I've ever read. Okay, maybe that's a stretch, but it's a really dumb list. [1] Most people don't know who these people are which means no built audience which means no big budgets which means throw out most of the team stuff and anything with a lot of CGI. Sure Marvel's been successful about making entertaining movies with class 3 characters, but no one else has even made a decent Marvel movie with a class 1 character (except for Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2) much less a good movie about a little known comic book. [2] A lot of these sucked. WildC.A.T.S.? Seriously? Youngblood? Both were Avengers/XMen ripoffs and both were terrible comics. The WildC.A.T.S. cartoon was atrocious. Seriously, go look it up on Youtube. Now, I'll admit, I have never read DangerGirl (which seems like Charlie's Angels, to me), Darkness, Harbinger (which seems like  every other Young Adult movie being made right now), Astro City or Solar. But let's just say,

Alrighty ... I just went through and added a handful of people to the community. Sadly, of the 30 or so requests for entrance only a few had filled out Profiles, any kinds of posts at all or pictures of motorcycles. That is to say, very few people had any sort of perceived interest in motorcycle riding on their G+ at all.  I have to wonder how some people even find this community. Regardless, welcome to those who were admitted. Once again I took a risk on a few people. Please familiarize yourself with the posting rules, newbies.

Let's not think about the horrendous details in this article for a second and focus on the policy that begat this situation. [1] The 14 year old girl was raped by a family member.  [2] She felt "too embarrassed" to come forward and report the rape and subsequent pregnancy. Okay, the first charge is still an allegation as no conviction has been made against her relative, the alleged rapist. But this is Texas where sex education is a sin and abortions can only be had after jumping through dozens of hoops, especially for children and even considering rape or incest. http://www.plannedparenthood.org/planned-parenthood-center-for-choice/texas-abortion-laws [3] Five to eight months after the attack the 14 year old girl couldn't hide her pregnancy any more and her family found out.  Again, what kind of environment is Texas breeding where a victim of rape is too embarrassed to come forward, especially when a pregnancy occurs? [4] Her family fed her Plan-B pills. This is mont

I hope this latest religion and sex scandal teaches that religious extremism isn’t entertainment. It is abuse.

I hope this latest religion and sex scandal teaches that religious extremism isn’t entertainment. It is abuse. Well, that about sums it up. Religious extremism is abuse. It's psychological, emotional and quite possibly physical abuse. Fundamental extremist religions are about controlling those who challenge the religion's leadership. I certainly hope this article spurs an investigation into the ATI for these claims of child abuse. And I hope they're town apart in the media. Remember when The DaVinci Code came out and the Priory of Scion was dissected by journalists? This is your Libertarian government at work. An executive and legislature bought and paid for by corporate (Koch) interests to ensure the demise of the state. Okay, this has been wobbling around in my head for a couple of years and I've never sat down and written it. Today I finally did. Call it a good workout this morning or a decent night's sleep or that pinch of caffeine, if you will. I don't know. I was just in a writing mood. So, here you go: How to Organize a Ride in Too Many Steps : a Beginner's Guide to Being that Guy Everyone Despises.

How to Organize a Ride in Way Too Many Steps

To be honest, we never thought it would end. The rain. For those of you who don't know, I live in Colorado where the natives like to brag about 300+ days of sunshine a year. Well, we're probably not going to meet that goal this year. The only two days in May (2015) that didn't have precipitation in one form or another (yes, it snowed and hailed) was the last weekend of the month - this past Saturday and Sunday. But, now riding season is [officially] upon us. And with riding season [hopefully] there will be more posts to this blog. Let's begin the summer riding season with a post I've had toiling around in the back of my head for a few years now. Actually, the idea came to me from another local rider who sent me a PM on a local riding forum asking me how to organize a ride. First, some background: we always had a local noob  ride that unofficially kicked off the riding season by taking veteran riders and putting them in riding groups with newbies. Now, those noobs  c

That's right, it's new profile pic time!  [cheers all around] For those of you who are new to the community and haven't been through one of these before, it's pretty simple. Look to your left. Just look to your left. There is the profile picture for this community. It's what people see when they search for us and how we're represented on G+. Each quarter we change it to a member submitted photo that garners the most votes from you the members. Anyone can enter, but only one can win. This is ThunderDome Motorcycle Riders! Don't forget to make sure your photo submission is a good fit for the profile image. In other words, it should be scalable, and preferably viewed in portrait (tall rectangle, not wide rectangle). It's always a shame when we get a nice image but once cropped to fit,
