The little old lady who acted as the poll judge told me I could have a "secrecy sleeve" to hide my voting from prying eyes.

I told her there is nothing shameful in how I choose to vote and I don't need to hide it.

I always thought of them as protection from bias election judges that would toss your vote if they didn't agree with you...but that's probably being a little paranoid.

Yeah, that's a little paranoid, Andrea Kuban. They didn't ask to look at anything, just guided me from the booth to the poll drop-off box.
Vote secrecy is actually a protection against buying or intimidating votes. Even if someone paid or threatened you to vote a certain way, if your vote is secret, they have no way to tell if you followed through.

I know what voting secrecy is for. The point being: I am not ashamed with
any of the decisions I made today.
