Atheists don't tend to have giant amounts of 'church money' behind them, but this is a move long in the running and may be the best thing to come out of Citizen's United.

I've always thought this was stupid.  If I were running for office and some idiot asked me my religion, I'd probably put my cheek in my hand and say "why, is that an issue?" or possibly "none of your business" or even "fuck off".

Theists would, as a general rule, prefer a person of a competing faith rather than an atheist. Nevertheless, I do wonder how Christians in the United States would respond if presented with Presidential candidates who were either atheist or Muslim. Who would they consider to be the lesser of two evils? Would their heads literally explode?
atheist or muslim or jewish or sikh or hindu

I would act that way, too, Elizabeth Bathory, but with social media telling everyone's tale and the media harassing family and friends, it wouldn't be too hard to find someone's religious preference so why not just answer.

Personally, I don't see why we atheists need to hide.
As an atheist, while I would LOVE to see an atheist in the Oval Office, I feel this movement is entirely counter productive. By organizing and grouping ourselves under a banner we run the risk of becoming just like theist. Organization breeds power... Power breeds corruption. And corruption corrupts absolutely.
I'd probably get frustrated and say "I DON'T KNOW.  Put down Pastafarian."
