While reading this article I couldn't help but wonder if the so-called "Trump phenomenon" was a natural progression; that it was nothing more than the pendulum swinging the other direction.

When we elected President Obama the pendulum swung one direction and now, with Trump, it's swinging in the opposite one. The thing is, it will swing back ... eventually. It really depends on how far their hateful standard bearer gets during this election cycle.

The pendulum has never swung in the other direction. That's the sad thing. White supremacists see the tiniest bit of progress as the end of the world. They fight back hard. End result is either racist politicians blunt the progress or other politicians get scared of losing what is still the largest voting group in the country and do the same.

So, the Civil Rights Act, post- Rodney King race dialogue and the election of the first black president of the United States isn't the pendulum swinging the other direction?
Swinging towards, but it's never reached the bottom of the swing.
I guess the question is what is the pendulum? Is it equality and freedom, or is it progress vs regression? If it's the later, then yes this is the pull back against progress.

Well, considering the article is about cultural regression, thanks to Trump, then I'm going with progression v. regression.
