Where did she get the gun? Obviously she didn't buy it legally, so that suggests someone was negligent in storing their weapon and should also possibly face charges in this.

Marla Caldwell From the sounds of it, she was running with a bad crowd in a bad area. I wouldn't assume she took an adult's legally registered weapon, she probably got an illegal gun from a gangbanger.

Kayci Morgan that's possible too. I just think that angle deserves investigation. You know something is seriously messed up when a 13 year old kills someone apparently over feeling disrespected or thwarted.

Marla Caldwell I agree. But this doesn't sound like the average 13 year old. Her mom sent her to live with her dad because she couldn't be handled. I'm guessing behavior like this is what she couldn't handle.

Kayci Morgan I'm guessing it wasn't quite this scale before or she'd already be in detention, but yes, it does seem she was troubled already and mom was attempting dad as an intervention.

Owning is quite different from buying. Owning is good. Kids on farms are raised around firearms and taught how to use them as tools as well as the parents who take their children shooting clays and targets. Time doing things with parents where responsibility is a key part builds responsibility and character.

Shannon B. it was the buying that I was more concerned about. My mother was hunting with her father for food for the family table when she was 6 years old, and in circumstances where children are taught safety, safety, safety and supervised very closely whenever they use appropriate firearms (those that they can control), I'm not opposed to that. But children definitely should not be buying them or using them unsupervised under any circumstances.

I'm shutting down Google+ for the night and quite possibly for the weekend.

I'm shutting down Google+ for the night and quite possibly for the weekend. Why? This stupid #gifwars thing people are so proud of. This Adam Black guy said he doesn't like gifs and now everyone is mass trolling him. Having been mass trolled like this I can relate to him easily enough. Have an opinion and the collective might of Google+'s lower class denizens jump on a bandwagon. I just saw a post where someone wanted to jump on board and had to get clarification she was tagging the proper Adam Black. She wasn't even connected to him ! Nor was she a part of the original discussion. She just wanted to follow the herd. When I called her out of it she claimed, "one gif doesn't make a troll." Perhaps not, but she's contributing to a larger troll effort. One straw doesn't break the camel's back, but thousands will. So, tonight, Google+ disgusts me. It probably will tomorrow as well. And possibly Sunday. I gave up Google+ for two months this spring
