Do atheists hate women? I know we talk about Bible thumpers and the Big 3 hating women all the time, but do atheists?

Do atheists hate women? I know we talk about Bible thumpers and the Big 3 hating women all the time, but do atheists?

If we read only a subreddit on Reddit we might be inclined to believe so. We might also be inclined to believe that people will say anything when the wall separating them from the real world is a keyboard or when entertaining themselves with "locker room talk."

But, if there's anything the world wide web has shown me over the years, some people, some cultures, just don't have courtesy and respect women in many western nations have grown to expect. I've seen in it messageboards and on places like Google+.

So the comments are left by atheists only?  I saw a lot of dickitude but nothing that connected them to atheism.

From what I read, Brenda Curtis, the original post was in an atheist subreddit.

Sounds like another case study for John Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory.

I don't reddit so I don't know how it works. Is a topic something anyone can join in as long as you are logged onto the site? I guess what I'm thinking is that topic in general would be fine feeding grounds for trolls just looking for a place to play. Like if someone searched #Atheist  here. They don't have to belong to the community or anything to chime in.

Any time you mix gender and privilege- and point out that privilege, it brings out the 'dickitude'. Doesn't matter what the venue is, or who does it. Geeks, scientists, atheists, pagans, fandom...

Unmoderated forum.  I'm getting somewhat fed up with anonymous cowards on the internet.  More and more often, i'm leery of reading the comments on anything, just because it seems to be people who enjoy trolling for no reasons other than to be assholes.

Let's be realistic. If you're on an unmoderated forum then you're going to run across crap like that. You just have to ignore it the way you would ignore a political statement from Kim Kardashian. Being offended never hurts anyone but you. Just let it roll off. Woooooo Saaaah.

Being an atheist only tells you the person is an a-theist.  Tells you nothing about the individual in any other way.  Period

If anything atheists respect women far more than those taking orders from imaginary bearded man in sky. We consider women as completely equal to men and don't consider them as simply supporters of men as oppose to Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and the others.

dude. you're completely off base. anyone who knows the Bible would know that Jesus reached out to, befriended, and ended up enlisting mary magdalene as one of His most valued disciples. This was completely counter culture and against all of the trends of that day. Any Christian who oppresses or discriminates against women is not living according to the Bible.

Jesus was what, 30ish years old? He was either married to or trying to sleep with Mary. If you're only proof Jesus respected women was that he kept her around then you seriously do not understand the exception proves the rule.

Lane Greer you are engaging in what's known as the "No True Scotsman" fallacy.

There are many bible verses in both the Old and New Testament which are used by Christians to support the subjugation of and discrimination against women, including 2 Timothy 12-14, 1 Corinthians 11:3, Titus 2:5, just for starters.
