This is an excerpt from the new book Fire and Fury that #DonaldTrump went all apeshit about recently. It doesn't really present anything new, per se, but there are a lot of new quotes and testimony from insiders who had the president's ear and watched the train-wreck we all know as #TrumpNation.

I'll also note: I've been saying for 18 months now the Trump campaign had no intention of winning. They tried to sabotage themselves left and right and yet the ignorati Trump supporters just kept eating it up and somehow we found ourselves here.

There's a lot of good information in this piece - and I assume, even more so in the book itself - but it demonstrates how Donald Trump just doesn't care. He's ambivalent to the workings of government or his role as the president and just seeks to feed his own ego with applause from the Conservatives as he blindly pushes their agenda.

I encourage all of you to take the time to read this. Yes, it's long, but it's worth it.

I don't know that I buy the thesis that Trump intentionally sabotaged his campaign, or that he thought he would lose. It's more likely that he wanted to win his way (although I can buy the argument that if he DID lose as expected, he'd argue that it was a great win).

Of course, Wolff was embedded in the White House after the inauguration, so I have more trust in that part of the story.

Oh, and one other thing - I don't know if I buy the "feed his own ego with applause from the Conservatives." Yes, he wants to feed his own ego, but if Jimmy Carter or whoever praises him, he'll take that applause also. Narcissism is non-ideological, and in fact thrives when everyone from the Communists to the Nazis is a potentially enemy.

Almost two years ago now an article was published where a political consultant claimed to have been interviewed by the Trump Campaign where she claimed the campaign didn't really want to win, they just didn't want to lose badly. They even gave her "acceptable numbers." I think it was something like 12%.

The NYMag story above only reiterates that claim. It also explains Trump's non-comforming approach to political norms. Each time he flaunted or refused to act like he was serious could be seen as being so out of the park - so insanely comical - that no one would take him or his campaign seriously. So yes, I believe he tried to self-sabotage himself numerous times, the belief being that his campaign didn't think people would continue to support him the more outlandish he became. What his campaign failed to count was the stupidity of the American electorate. His ardent supporters, sure, every politician has them, but the others? The 'normal' republicans who voted for him? The dwindling Reaganites? The neocons? And then there are the millennials who decided they'd vote for Trump as a big FU to the standing Democratic party because they were mad.

Regardless, the American people traded liberty, civil liberties and international respect for a few shiny glass baubles traded to us by a conman.

More, this time about the credibility of the author. The good news is, if his authenticity comes into question he supposedly has recordings and notes he can release to support his position.
