Spent the last few days backing up hundreds of gigabytes of photos off this computer and into DVDs. Whew!

I have external drives ... somewhere, but even they can fail. I keep thinking about online, or "cloud", solutions, but unfortunately, money is an issue.

I still have hundreds of gigabytes of photos on here, but they need to be edited. 

I am so far behind the curve.

Yeah, I have that too, but to be honest, as much as the cloud is useful, I really prefer working locally when organizing, tagging, etc.

Especially since my CenturyLink DSL is coming in typically at 5mb/s instead of the 20 we're paying for.

I have a RAID6 NAS for my backups. Using Google plus photos (formerly Picasa Web Albums) as a secondary cloud based backup.

I have autobackup for Google+ as well, but again, you're forced to work in the cloud and Google+ Photos doesn't have nearly the free storage Flickr does.

Flickr and Google+ are great for cloud storage, but they can delete your entire account and content without notice if their robots decide you violated a term of service.
