If you watch nothing else, watch the first few minutes of this Vice piece. The news focused on the chaos, which gave the impression of a mob of fascist idiots that just need to be arrested or ignored. But watching them march and talk is beyond chilling. There's a sickness in this country and it needs to be addressed at all levels. The comparisons to the rise of fascism in the last century are not out of line. We cannot let this continue.

Yep.

I was just talking to a friend whom I sent this to and mentioned that these are your neighbors and friends. How many people do you know in real life who support, or at least sympathize, with the alt-Right? You might be surprised at the answer.

I had a cousin's daughter try to tell me about those people once. She said, "Those people are terrorists." I asked her exactly what a terrorist looks like and she replied, "You know." As if a terrorist has a look. So, I asked if Timothy McVeigh was a terrorists. Oh, yeah, what about the Unibomber? "You know what I mean," she tried defending herself. I wanted my blonde-haired, blue-eyed, .twenty-something cousin's daughter to admit she was a bigot but she just turned away from me and stopped talking.

Surprisingly, I've gone through a version of this conversation with a lot of people. Sometimes with people I've known for years, such as a former friend of mine who called all Middle-Easterners no matter their country or religion of origin, "al-Qaeda" and another former friend who swore up and down it was the Mexicans who were going to single handily destroy the United States of America. And don't even get me started on all the white people who think that just because I'm a white guy that we're of like minds so they start sprouting their alt-Right bullshit.
What is the biblical response to this, it is difficult. As the Atlantic put it clearly, the Alt-Right and Racism do not align to Christianity.

theatlantic.com - America’s Empty-Church Problem

"But non-churchgoing conservatives didn’t flock to Trump only because he articulated their despair. He also articulated their resentments. For decades, liberals have called the Christian right intolerant. When conservatives disengage from organized religion, however, they don’t become more tolerant. They become intolerant in different ways. Research shows that evangelicals who don’t regularly attend church are less hostile to gay people than those who do. But they’re more hostile to African Americans, Latinos, and Muslims. In 2008, the University of Iowa’s Benjamin Knoll noted that among Catholics, mainline Protestants, and born-again Protestants, the less you attended church, the more anti-immigration you were. (This may be true in Europe as well. A recent thesis at Sweden’s Uppsala University, by an undergraduate named Ludvig Broomé, compared supporters of the far-right Swedish Democrats with people who voted for mainstream candidates. The former were less likely to attend church, or belong to any other community organization.)"
BTW Intolerant of homosexuality generally is classified as saying it is a sin.
Speechless .... the world is going back in time what the hell. Thanks for posting Jason
