People have been posting this it seems like every three minutes since yesterday. So, if you haven't heard, Google wants to sync your home computer to Drive.

Great!

But don't forget, it will probably mean you have to purchase more Drive space from Google.

They have been at that on the phone too.
so they can sync phone pics and our hard drive all together so you can access your files of your hard drive with your phone anywhere. also windows 10 and Microsoft do this also. another valid reason is this way you do not have to haul our lap top on to a airplane. just your phone. google spread and google word and google docs are all compatible with Microsoft now.
Its funny to think that if society buys into this with all our personal information then why do we bother feeling shy with gender specific bathrooms? or walking out in public buck naked.

It sounds like this will be automatically replacing the existing Google Drive app I have installed. Is that what you're seeing too?

Stephen Holst it seems that way to me. Personally, I'm not a big fan of loss of control. Google's moving in that direction and it's annoying me.

Jason ON Aren't they giving more control with this move by allowing you to backup any folder on your computer? Or is there some other control that we're losing that I'm not seeing?

With the Drive as it sits now I move any individual files I want to sync on a case by case basis.

I'm not seeing anything different here. Backing up on other peoples computers "the cloud" has from the start been a loss of control. It's a balance of convenience and privacy. Most people will blindly accept this loss of privacy.

So I've installed the new app and honestly it appears they only added control for the end user. It retains the feature of automatically syncing anything in the Google Drive folder but then they expanded the capability to allow you to select folders outside the Google Drive folder. None are added automatically. But they also provided you the ability to control the upload and download speed so that you don't overload your network. Seems like a good upgrade to me.
