I love it when someone tries to bring a bible to a law fight. That's when the separation clause really hits home.

RELIGIOUS NEWS: Father and son accused of rape need only Bible for defense

A father and son accused of raping a teenage girl over a three-year period and keeping her shackled in a basement have made it clear that they don't have faith in the law or in the people who practice it.

When they face an Ohio jury as they defend themselves against criminal charges that carry long prison sentences, they will rely on one book: The Bible.

Timothy Ciboro and his son, Esten Ciboro, both of Toledo, are each charged with multiple counts of rape. The trial is scheduled to start this week, months after the girl, who is Timothy Ciboro's stepdaughter, managed to unshackle herself and escape while her alleged abusers were gone, authorities said.

During a hearing Friday, the Ciboros made the unusual request of having access to the Bible, which they plan to cite as they defend themselves in front of a jury. The Bible, Esten Ciboro told a judge, is "the only law book that truly matters," the Toledo Blade reported.

"There's a great deal of strategy in Scripture and I use those strategies in everything I do," Esten Ciboro told the judge, according to the Toledo Blade's coverage of the hearing. "It's a vital part of everything I do."

Many are pleased. His defense strategy will most likely ensure his conviction

LOL...One way ticket to the pound-me-in-ass prison. Don't drop the soap, dopes.

I sat on a jury where another prospective juror, during the selection process and the standard query as to whether she could render a verdict according to the judge's instructions and the evidence presented. In a back-and-forth that lasted for nearly thirty minutes,* the woman affirmed that she used the Bible to address all of her problems, including decisions about right and wrong.

She was excused.

*The thirty minutes was problematic only because I was Juror #1. The voir dire process took two days before we had a complete jury plus alternates.

The Bible would not condone this behavior anyway. So even if they got their wish they would still be guilty and the Bible teaches and eye for an eye .... Get that lube ready boys ....

None Of Your Business It was a case involving two men with criminal records, one a registered sex offender and the other an ex-con with an extensive record, so the attorneys really wanted to make sure jurors weren't coming in with bias because of their records. The RSO had accused the other man of holding him at gunpoint while others used his (welfare) debit card to buy things. The evidence did not support a guilty verdict. Solano County, California.

And I don't mean to imply that jury service is a pain. Fascinating circumstances and case, and the wait would have been the same if I was picked last.
