This article only vaguely involves motorcycle riding, but it brings up a point I try to explain to people often. Unlike a car, a motorcycle puts you in your environment. You can't roll up the windows, lock the doors or turn up the volume to hide from locals, you're right there in the mix whether you're out for a day ride, a weekend excursion or crossing national borders. It's one of the things I love about bike traveling versus driving or flying.

This article was great... Uplifting in more ways than one. Woman make strides in all different countries with riding solo.... Danger or no danger... It's all perceived by each to his own! Only riding you get all those senses! Jason ON I totally agree!

Welcome to the first chapter of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance --

“In a car you're always in a compartment, and because you're used to it you don't realize that through that car window everything you see is just more TV. You're a passive observer and it is all moving by you boringly in a frame.

On a cycle the frame is gone. You're completely in contact with it all. You're in the scene, not just watching it anymore, and the sense of presence is overwhelming.”

You know, I tried reading that book once as it's a favorite of a friend of mine, but I was bored out of my mind. I'd rather read Steve Johnson's motorcycle philosophy blog.

The first chapter was good, Jason ON, but it went downhill from there, so I quit after that.  :-)
