Just received a software update from CyanogenOS (One+1) and now I have this stupid Google NOW info card on my home screen floating above everything in the most annoying manner possible.

I tried to remove it via the Google search app's settings, but can't seem to find one called "Remove that Stupidly Intrusive Floating Widget" anywhere.

All it seems to do is open the Google search app, so now instead of one tap to search I have an extra step which is just plain ridiculous.

Does anyone know how to remove this silly thing? It's like every time Google updates Android these days I just want to quit Android and find something else that's not pushing features I'm not interested in having.

Do you want to remove Google Now or just change the homescreen?  Either way go to the Google ap (rainbow G icon).  Then Settings, then Now Cards.  You can show/hide, etc

Elizabeth Hahn, that will get rid of the floating home screen card here? I tried that already and the only thing it removed was the cards when the Now app was opened.

Hmm how about if you go Google > Customize >Everything else and adjust the weather settings?

Sadly, Elizabeth Hahn, those settings are already set to off.

Ok then your phone is crazy :D

I'm thinking so. :(

Sadly, I disables Google NOW altogether and the floating widget (as seen in the screenshot above) stays, but transparent with directions for setting up Google NOW.

How odd.  Hopefully it's just a bug that'll get fixed quickly.

Wait, you got an update for Cyanogenmod and you're blaming google for it?  Seems to me, the easiest thing to do would be to install the default Google Now launcher and use that instead of whatever CyanogenOS is using.  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.launcher&hl=en

Yeah, Dave Maez, this isn't a Cyanogen feature, its definitely a Googly one. I've tried disabling the Google Now feature altogether and a "ghost" bar remains at the top as a place holder asking to set up Google Now. I tried rolling back the Google app's updates but that bar just remains, making me think it's a system issue. I don't know if it's even possible to uninstall the Google app, but I'm willing to try. As far as I can tell, there's no home screen or widget manager to change settings to.

I'm thinking this might be my answer and if it is, I'm seriously not happy:

I liked having the Google search widget on my home screen but not the stupid Google Now widget that floats above all my home screens (as seen in the above screen shot).

Well, that was a giant pain-in-the-ass. Finally found a "work around."

[1] Long press on the home screen to pull up wallpapers, themes and widgets options.

[2] Click the three dots, or swipe up (but that didn't work for me) and find option for Search Bar ON/OFF. I switched it from ON to OFF.

[3] Choose Widgets (at the top of the setting drawer) and find Google App

It's a not a true replacement as it resizes everything on your home screen which means moving things around to make it fit where you want it to, but at least the stupid Google Now card isn't floating at the top of my screen(s).

Jason ON As you can see in those links, it's a CM specific bug.  The only 3rd party launcher that's having this issue is CM's Trebuchet.  Everyone else's launcher is coded according to the API, and isn't having the issue.  It's an annoyance, but you should be blaming the CM team, not Google.

Trebuchet is a CM thing? So many silly codenames in software development these days who really knows what anything is by it's name?
