I can't say I've ever heard of the Slenderman before today.

I can't say I've ever heard of the Slenderman before today.

Two twelve year old girls stabbed a third 12 year old 19 times and left her to die. Luckily, the third girl was able to crawl long enough to be spotted by a passerby. The girls blamed the Slenderman for their actions.

One has to wonder, if they were older or had more upper body strength, whether the third girl would have died.

Don't worry, it'll eventually get blamed on video games. There's several of them based on the Slender Man stories.

On a related note, things like this make me cringe. How does a child get from a story to actually enacting that story. Makes me wonder about the parenting in the U.S. society as well as the mental health of our children.

I wonder what role religion played in their lives. Maybe they can't tell one fictional character from another.

I've been reading about this tonight. Yeah, unreal, huh? But it's total BS to blame this on a website, or the kids' parents. I doubt these parents saw any harm in allowing their kids to read horror stories. I would have allowed it. Who ever dreams their kid is homicidal? Really! It seems to me that these girls became too engrossed in this fantasy and simply became obsessed to the point of losing touch with reality. Sad, criminal and no one's fault but their own.

Same thing happened in the 80s with role-playing games. Parents were freaking out because all unwanted behavior was being blamed on D&D.

Holy Hello Kitty Jason ON I remember that! Christian parents especially took exception to it. Parents like to blame outside sources rather than admit their child is not well, or not humane. I have a daughter and I know it's hard to hear about some of the things she has done and choices she has made. But I recognize that no one is perfect. I also have 3 brothers who are lifetime felons, 2 of which have murdered many people. It disgusts me and I have no relationship with them. But I had to admit to myself that the boys I grew up with and loved are dead inside and murderers. It helps me to see things with a different point of view I suppose.
