More than that, Trump is trying to discredit anyone who might have knowledge of his obstruction or other crimes. Conveniently it also lets him exercise his vindictive impulses and send a message to anyone that might go against him. Trump may be incompetent at governing but he's pretty good at protecting himself when his con jobs unravel.
