As it turns out, McD's CEO doesn't really care about his employees.

As it turns out, McD's CEO doesn't really care about his employees. Even going so far as to have those with harsh questions arrested.

Isn't that nice of the One-Percenter?

While I feel employees should be paid and treated better, some jobs will always be low wage jobs. Do I think someone flipping burgers should make $15 an hour? No.

We're not taking about a kid working after school and on the weekends, we're talking about 10 year employee.

Are there no better jobs out there? I have a 9th grade education. Went to 10th grade for literally 2 weeks. I worked at a movie theater a while, Lowes for a couple years, even the dreaded Wal-mart. But for the last 10 years I've owned a plumbing company. I can tell you it can be done. It just requires a hell of a lot of work!

Btw, I have two kids and a wife who was a stay at home mom. We made that work for 10 years with just my income.

That's fantastic, Justin Frederick !

No I DO realize that. I'm not saying everyone could do it. But everyone CAN find a little better job. Or learn a new skill.

My question is sonja dorsey if flipping burgers pays $15 an hour, what does a burger cost? If the price more than doubles, will less people buy burgers? If less people buy burgers, people will loose jobs.

I think the minimum wage should be raised, just not to a ridiculous point. It is a slippery slope.

If everyone DID find a better job, where would you buy your burgers? What burgers would you even buy? I guess you'd just make your own from the meat you buy directly from the farmer?

The fact is, low skill workers DO exist, and their work IS needed in modern society. Someone has to clean the floors, make the burgers, take out the trash, etc. They're ALL people, and deserve to be able to actually live without help from the government if they work an honest job.

In Ontario, Canada the min wage for adults is $10.25. For students it is $9.60 & a server's min wage is $8.90. Our cost of living is high and I often wonder how single parents or low income families can survive. This lady mentioned "no raise" in the last ten years. Does that mean she's always earned $8.25? I'm not sure what the cost of living is where she lives, but living here & as a mom of 3, I know that I could not make it on min wage. My job pays $15/hr and it's still not enough.
As for her being threatened to be arrested for interrupting. ..this man does realize he's the prez of McDonald's and not the USA right? Wow...talk about being on a high horse.
On the topic of McPoo's... I've been told that over here a student MUST be in school in order to work there ,& must prove that. Don't know how true that is but gives kids incentive to stay in school while making some money.

Justin Frederick flipping burgers DOES pay $15/hr in Australia, and the price of a burger there is only marginally higher than here. . .

You guys realize your arguing "low skill" manual labor jobs with a guy whose profile pic is in a 7' deep trench I dug with a shovel, right? I know what having a crappy low paying job is. I know how hard it is to teach yourself the skill needed to get a better job.
It requires hard work!

At the same time I pay my guys how I would have liked to be payed. They earn more than I do because I know they do all the work now.

I'm arguing a man who makes tens of millions of dollars a year who had a dissenter arrested because he didn't like her asking questions, Justin Frederick.

I think it's great that you achieved a better life, but not everyone has and not everyone has the skills, education or support to change their lives and not everyone wants to be an entrepreneur.

The point of fact is simple: an employee asked a very real, very important question and instead of answering it, the One-Percenter had her arrested instead. That's what I'm arguing.
Just Plumbing said…
Ok Jason ON I ABSOLUTELY agree with you. The guy is an idiot! He in no way deserves to manage the army of people under him.

I realize not everyone wants or can be an entrepreneur. When times were bad, I offered my guys a piece of my business. They both declined. You'd think now that the economy is better and we are busy they would regret their decision, but you'd be wrong. They like being employees. They are great employees! That's why I treat them well, so they stay MY great employees. People are free to improve their lives almost whenever they want.
Colin Fosgate said…
Justin Frederick If you pay and treat your guys well, then you obviously already agree with us. . .
Just Plumbing said…
I do agree that everyone should be treated well at work and that people should be paid well for what they do. But I know there are people who want everything given to them and there are those that are willing to work their ass off to get it. The hard workers should be rewarded.

sonja dorsey good point

sonja dorsey is right. I worked at Wendy's when I was in my teens. On Clifton Hill here in NF (main tourist hot spot for those who don't know). It IS hard work and at the time I was in school & living on my own. I think that anyone who is employed, regardless of position or industry has to put up with a certain amount of crap; enough to make any job hard. If you want to talk about lazy and having things handed for free, let's look at the many welfare recipients who are capable of working and choose not to. I can give you a prime, jaw dropping example but that's not the purpose of this post.
Justin Frederick congratulations on your success. Many entrepreneurs are not as lucky. My husband took a hand at making custom fiberglass body kits & parts for cars and landed a great deal with a known supplier of these parts. Unfortunately he got screwed big time so now he's back to working for someone else. He worked day & night and had two employees.
