So we've been told that childhood obesity is a serious problem but we're putting ridiculous restrictions on activities that are best shown to fix the problem.  Brilliant.

I have a small karate dojo and sportsmanship is a must when you're going to be punching and kicking each other.  We instill it right off the bat with bowing.  Bowing is a sign of respect and you bow before you do pretty much anything.

I'm in a bit of a grey area with the leaving early at an event.  With martial arts tournaments its not a problem leaving early once you're done competeing.  My daughters has a dance recital and we left after they were done because they were only in one piece and there were still hours left to go with the program.  Too long to ask two six years to sit still.  But a college graduation like Don sited, you sit 'til the end unless you have a damn good reason not to.

Take a page out of the UFC handbook.  Act like a prick after an event: you're done.
