Ave you used the Google News app?

Ave you used the Google News app? I just downloaded it the other day and have been underwhelmed. Luckily, I haven't had this problem.

I want the old News & Weather app back. I don't want auto playing videos and massive images. I know how to read. Give me the headlines and some text and I'm good.

I had exactly this problem last month. Luckily I've got Project Fi. I sent them a bitchy note, not really expecting anything to come of it, and they credited the data usage to my account.

Needless to say, that POS app was uninstalled and I'm using Flipboard now.

I don't think news uses much but Android OS uses too much..
Jason ON said…
David Gross that's because the OS is "always connected" .

yes, and it needs mobile data even when I'm on wifi :-\

Can someone give me a link to a quick tutorial on how to find out which apps are using data? I know how to find which apps are using up battery juice. I did not know there was a way to find out which apps are using data.

Keith Keber Here's the first result on Google, basically, Settings/Data Usage/Cellular data usage and it will tell what the apps use.

Way to code Google take something that works and fuck it up really

Thanks guys. That is really a help. I haven't downloaded the Google News app, so the "Google" app itself is the biggest data user at 109 MB

I have a question: if I turn on "Data Saver" then turn off "Background data" on the biggest data-using apps (looking at YOU, Google Photos), that should prevent data transfer unless I'm connected to a local WiFi network, right?
David Gross said…
Keith Keber shouldn't need data saver for that but it would work, actually, photos should have a setting to only use wifi.
