Now imagine if the #GOP controlled federal Congress tried to implement these sorts of reforms with #DonaldTrump as president. Imagine then writing legislation that guaranteed SCOTUS nominees during Republican administrations or, worse, that any social, environmental or otherwise progressive policy need to be approved like Constitutional amendments

Remember, states are proving grounds for policy actions. They're a place for parties and lobbyists to try out agenda items that might not fly at the national level. Look at what the governors of Wisconsin, Michigan and Kansas have been doing these past few years: disbanding unions, governor-appointed administrators of cities (eschewing democratic controls) and libertarian fiscal policies). They're practice runs to gauge what happens.

Ideally, this is how our federal society would work for us and it has in the past. Just look at Colorado and Washington passing marijuana legalization laws.

And yet, the #GOP has been using our democratic experiment to restrict voting rights, restrict individual rights (abortion access, for example) and restrict the safety and welfare of our communal spaces, such as the air, water and even the land.

Now, in North Carolina they're pushing the edges of decorum once more, cutting holes in what has made our democracy a success for over two hundred years.

The question is, in their mad play for power and authority, has the GOP destroyed American democracy?

Doesn't seem as scary as what happened in California with the Jungle Primaries.
