where standing meant before this article.

I've trained myself to stand with my back to the door facing anyone else in the elevator with me.  It makes for incredibly awkward elevator rides.  :-)

I always stand in the back. I'm also particular about where I sit and where I park though, so I thought it was just me.

I'm not so particular about either, but it may be that I'm female that influences that. Left unchecked, I tend to park next to other cars (according to my wife it's always next to a car with people in it), but I'm flexible with where I park.

I have a thing about always trying to sit facing a door or exit. As for parking I really have no preference - no matter where I park I always end up with a large vehicle on either side od my small hatchback.
