Just had a conversation with the lady in my motorcycle insurance office about the Occupy Wall St. movement. She said the occupyers are all a bunch of deadbeats who just won't go get jobs.

I said they're out there protesting the system that failed everyone but 1% of the populace. She said they hate capitalism. I told her to stop watching Fox News. Then I told her what they were really protesting about. She said, oh I agrre with that.

She then told me she doesn't watch the news, Fox or otherwise. If she's not watching the news (and I assume read the papers, etc.) then where is she getting her false information?

She said they were a bunch of deadbeats who just quit their jobs to protest.

I'm really considering taking my business elsewhere.

Jason ON her friends, workmates, gossip... that's effective the echo chamber is... some easy soundbite from fox will translate and spread by word of mouth. just label someone a hippie. in fact, i bet she thinks anyone who protests is a hippie slacker who doesn't want to work. that's why i'm all for soundbiting the otherside, even if it's not accurate. start demonizing suits and execs, and repeat constantly for years and decades, and you'll see the effect.

It is interesting since I haven't heard anyone on Fox news say the protesters are dead beats etc., to the contrary, people who are hardworking average Americans tired of corps and banking industry fleecing them.

the jobless and homeless, who have occupied the streets for decades, have been ignored and virtually criminalized. it's the working class that have to speak for them...

I don't like that it's said to be an attack on the "Rich". It's really an attack on the "Greedy" and "Corrupt".

I hope these words start getting used more in the political discussion. Saying "The Rich" is a big turn off for people who should be supporting these concerns. It's the money of the "Honest Rich" that's being devalued as well.

I made sure to point out it's about the system that supported the recession and the bailouts. The same system that those 1%ers lobbied for.

When I mentioned the TeaPartiers were a Koch Bros. funded racist group she got very offended.

Can't say that I blame her for getting offended if she considers herself a Tea Party person and not a racist. Calling people racist is an unfortunately common tactic when you can't or won't discuss the issues.

She never identified herself as a Tea Partier, I merely mentioned the Tea Party was a group of unemployed, flag waving racists.

I'm thinking you should watch your insurance premiums very carefully, since your agent has already demonstrated she's not picky about details.
