as sad as it is - this lion offered nothing to the gene pool - most likely he's been mating with his daughters - grand daughters and maybe great gran d's

So, your lack of empathy on the death of a protected animal is based on ... speculation, eDDie TK? Do you have any proof to your claim? Do you bring anything special to the gene pool? If not, should you be murdered for 50k euros?

i'm willing to bet that the village (nearest) got most or all the money from that hunt - to them that's like winning the lottery - just like they get all the money from an elephant hunt - along with all the meat - we don't live there - they see what we have and want the same - the people have every right to prosper - no ? - if you had a garden - that supplied the food for your family for the year and an elephant was destroying it - or a lion killing your cattle - what would you do ? - this hunt was not illegal - i don't kill by the way - but animals like that - the dominate male gets to breed - just like with elk - deer - rhinos - bison - etc etc etc - after a while that dominate male starts to breed with his kin - it happened in custer state park in sd - they brought in more bull bison thinking they could diversify the gene pool - it didn't work - because of that dominate male thing - then they brought in cows bison from other areas and that fixed the problem - just like here with mountain lions - if a male sees and can tell the kits from a female are not his - he will kill them - and that will put the female back in estrous - ready to breed with him - money talks - if you and him to breed with if people want these animals to stay alive - buy them - offer the village - 50,000 euros a year to keep that animal alive - once that animal is killed the money stops - but even most nature conservationist  think trophy hunting actually helps the species - a simple google search will bring up a few sites

and yes i do bring diversity to the gene pool just like you - but small groups of animals mate different than people - again the dominate male gets to mate - in every instance - elk - wolves - bison - lions - elephants - etc etc etc - you can see that in the rut in rocky mtn nat'l park - that's what the rut is all about - is getting a chance to breed - that's why the dominate male rounds up a harem - and keeps then away and other bulls away - so when a cow goes in to heat - he's right there - to mate
