When Android itself isn't vulnerable, the UIs definitely are. Time to remove the bloat, Samsung Mobile USA!

So, I have the GS3 and the Tab 2 10.1...

The headlines caught my eye... But from what I have read... This hole has already been patched.... By Samsung on their devices

The vulnerability was not limited to Samsung either...

This one smells like an Apple sponsored story.

Could be, Rich LaDuca. I was more interested in pointing out that the un-needed UI is a security threat that didn't need to be there.

There is a "fix" out now, discovered it just yesterday evening: Get the app "notelurl" from the Play store (free). It hooks up as another responsible app for those links, so if you encounter one, your phone will ask you which app to choose instead of sneakily executing. Until Samsung comes up with a patch this is probably the best there is...

Olaf Fichtner That's a clever workaround.

So far the only useful response I've seen. I stopped TouchWiz as soon as I read the news, but this is better.

how did you 'stop' TouchWiz?
Olaf Fichtner said…
Rich LaDuca : Settings - Application Manager - TouchWiz - Force Stop

Can not be uninstalled, unfortunately...

Ahhh 'Force Stop'.... TouchWiz Home Starts right back up again... AFTER it opens the last app you had open and forces you to 'back button' out of  every single app you had open...

Then...

TouchWiz Home all over again.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how it is hooked up there, whether it needs to run right after booting, listening for work, or will be executed when needed, I'm not familiar enough with the Android internals. Originally I wanted to remove it, but stopping was the only option I had, so I did at least that.

You didn't really stop it... You re-started it.
TouchWiz is the GUI (Graphical Use Interface).

If your aim is to have it not have TouchWiz running... Flash ROM

Yes, meanwhile I guessed that much. The interface is nice, but sometimes I wish I had a command line with su permission. But then again, it is mainly a phone and I'd like to keep it that way...
