I wish, but it's the only means some of my friends communicate with. I missed out on a number of holiday parties and whatnot because "I was invited on FB" but I didn't see the invite.
They don't. People are lazy. I didn't even get a call or a notification of my sister's pregnancy or my brother's engagement. They "put it on Facebook" so I should know about it.

I've even had business interests contact be via FB messenger versus email or even LinkedIN to discuss work, projects, etc. It's very annoying.
Jason ON Aha! You must read my very similar experience: http://goo.gl/S8jtY practically drove me ,mad. The only reason my laptop did not end up outside the window was because I was in a hotel and needed it.
For most people, whether they hate it or love it, they have to maintain a presence on 2 social networks. There is no one outstanding network for everyone. I hate that I have to keep a FB account but what Jason says is 100% correct - people stick to the network they know and "assume" all their friends are there too - right or wrong. Just imagine if MySpace starts taking off again - there will be 3 social networks to manage.
