The answer may lie in how Trump and his supporters define corruption. In a forthcoming book titled How Fascism Works, the Yale philosophy professor Jason Stanley makes an intriguing claim. “Corruption, to the fascist politician,” he suggests, “is really about the corruption of purity rather than of the law. Officially, the fascist politician’s denunciations of corruption sound like a denunciation of political corruption. But such talk is intended to evoke corruption in the sense of the usurpation of the traditional order.”

Read that again: corruption of purity. It can also be read as corruption of traditional values or corruption of my values. Which makes sense when you look at the long run. The #GOP has been haranguing the Left with charges stemming from civil, not criminal, actions for decades. Bill Clinton wasn't investigated for any wrong-doing, it was for having an extra-marital affair; Barack Obama wasn't investigated for any illicit activities, but for wearing a tan suit; and Hillary Clinton was investigated for ... well, pretty much everything. Why? For one, the Republicans needed someone in the Obama Administration to demonize and who better than the woman they'd been demonizing for decades? And two, because Hillary Clinton dared to step outside her role as a silent wife.

Corruption of Purity and, for some reason, #DonaldTrump's adherents believe he epitomizes purity. Of what, exactly? Race? Power? Masculinity? All of the above and more?

To be blunt, it's because they are all delusional morons. I think it's time we call a spade a spade.

"During the campaign, they cheered his vow to “drain the swamp” in Washington, D.C." - I would bet a dozen doughnuts that they didn't realise he was unintentionally meaning himself in that comment.

I've thought something similar from the start - the people who elected this guy don't care that he does whatever he does - he was AUTHENTIC to them. He was telling it like they were already thinking it. It's their story up on that stage no matter what he does or says. Can't change: women stay in the kitchen; America is a white Christian nation; change is bad.

Bullshit.
When they say 'we need understanding' they are talking about them, and their need to understand. We are not the delusional ones, nor are we the ones that need to adjust.
Trumpnation are the ones that need understanding and perspective.
