Donald Trump said he wants to stop Germany from selling so many cars in the United States. Perhaps he doesn't know most of those German cars are made here.
See, it turns out that many “foreign” cars are actually made in the U.S. while many “American” cars are made in Canada and Mexico. That’s how globalization works today.
I suppose Trump could try to stop the sales of German cars in the U.S. But that would involve shutting down a bunch of factories on American soil that employ American workers and use a lot of U.S.-produced parts. Yes, that would be bad—very bad.

Maybe just maybe, He would like people that live in the USA to buy American made cars?
You know to maybe help the economy recover?
You know, if people do that, it'll create more jobs in stateside automotive industries and there subsidiaries(other companies that make the components for other parts of the car).
Yea, I'm aware foreign manufactures have factories here. I'm in the automotive trade.Been so for 10+ years.
Like how when in the pre-election/beginning Ford,GM and some others if I recall correctly were bailing on their mexico plants and bringing them back to the states in fear of losing money due to the import tariffs that were in talks.
But then everyone in their mother got their panties in a twist about the temporary ban.
So, doing what companies do because they like to make money, jumped on the bandwagon of everyone and their mother.Figuring that in doing so would bring money in lieu of them being viewed by the public as siding with everyone and their mother.
What he's trying to do, is turn us, The U.S.A. back into a producing nation.
Not only a producing nation, but a consuming nation of our own produced products.
Being the biggest consumers on the planet(U.S.A) . The products we consume are mostly outsourced and not made here.
So when those foreign companies like BMW, Toyota etc, build factory's here.
Yes, the country and state and city is making money off of them.
But the majority of the money goes to the parent company that is not located in this country.
So, In short, He would like people to buy Ford,GM etc products. But he would also like that Ford,GM etc would be actually built stateside with goods that are also made state side.
Not buying an "American" made car with it being built in mexico with a drivetrain from france and electronics from japan and interior panels made in india. And so on and so forth.
And even if it does benefit us in some small margin, the sheer delivery of his remark likely set public relations with Germany back at least five years.
You wanna fix up the American economy? Start taxing religion. I guarantee that's way more lucrative than an import tax on foreign vehicles.
But it would definitely work. And hell, it's an in-house solution. If we're keeping our goods all-American, might as well keep are debt-fixers all-American too!
