That sucks. This officer was terminated for not shooting an (an unarmed) man.

The irony here is, this man had an unloaded pistol in his hand. The officer couldn't have known that but used his military training to read the situation and gauge the threat. In dozens - hundreds - of other examples, the person assassinated by the police has no weapon, loaded or unloaded. We usually hear the officer "thought" the deceased had a gun or mistook a cell phone/wallet/plush bear for a weapon and so decided to fire even though no threat existed.
