That sucks.

Google defended itself against Oracle but are letting the phone manufacturers fight their Android battles. I'm sure Google has decent lawyers, they need to be in this fray. As far as apple in concerned any software devloped before, during or after the iPhone is now infringing on their products, even if that tech was a copy of an earlier product.

I think this isn't as bad as it looks. The source is Macworld, so not exactly neutral. Granted patents can be fought and nullified. Apple too did not invent everything on their own, almost nobody can claim such credit these days. And if it really comes to a court confrontation, Google (or whoever is sued) will strike back with their own patents, because that's all patents are still "good" for: Striking the competition or shielding from their strikes, patents got nothing to do with innovation any longer...
