Xeno Phrenia doesn't like having a discussion and can't seem to do so without swearing and name calling, so I have to share this:

Actually, people do make toast, the toaster is the tool by which a majority of us do so. We could also use an open flame or a hot pan/skillet.

But I think in her zealous hatred of firearms, Xeno Phrenia  failed to read this part of the post she, herself, originally shared:

_But here's the deal, it's not entirely about the guns. The guns are just one fraction of the problem. It's mainly an issue about psychological and mental health.

That's the key point that everyone seems to be aware of, but too many are glossing over.

Not only this mental health issue, but other mental attitudes, such as the violence aspect of Americans must, in my mind, seriously be investigated. _

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. It's true. Just like the toaster doesn't load itself and push the lever down. A person does. The above segment from the blog post itself states that it's people who use guns, people who need mental health care and a society that needs to stop idolizing figures who use violence to solve their problems.

The gun is an inanimate object and cannot actively do anything without a human being (or creature with fingers, if we want to be specific) behind it.

hehehe "That's like saying: toasters don't make toast. People do." ... I like that ...

nope - read the whole thing actually - again with the pot calling the kettle black ;-)
I kinda like guns, I just don't want anything so irrational and untrustworthy as a human to hold one.

But none of those things are lethal until you add humanity to the mix.

and I've never argued that there aren't other factors - only that a gun's reason for being is to kill - it's why they were invented - it's most often why they are acquired (though of late they have become a - as the advertisement says - 'man card') ... to deny that is to deny reality - which is what the article is saying ... but - like the zealot for the other side you are - you refuse to see it yourself ... I know America has a violence problem ... have never denied it - but you completely deny what guns are for - by saying they can be used for other things ..

cars can be used for other things - like a storage locker - but that doesn't change what a car was intended for ... to transport people ... and you say I'm denial ;-)

you remind me of Gollum and guns are your Precious ;-)

Tom McGill
, we also regulate guns.

Yeah, I've been to gun shows. You can get better deals elsewhere.

Tom McGill - I think guns should be regulated the same way a car is - since they both have nearly the same death rates - license to carry and register every gun ... hehehe ... but no no no - we can't do that - someone may want to take Precious away ... ;-) ... ~sigh~ ... it's like arguing with a religious nut ...

None, Tom McGill, I was just making a point about gun shows not being all that.

And Xeno Phrenia, you have done nothing in the past week but go on an anti-gun crusade. This is the first time you've said anything sensible.

because of the argument you've been raising Jason ON ... the statement you've been arguing for originated as a marketing / PR ploy by the NRA to separate a guns purpose/use from it's image ... to try to separate us from the truth about them ... it's mind-boggling to me to watch someone suck it in so hook/line/sinker ... and seem to think it holds water ;-) - it's a dumb arguement for them other than give people a false sense of safety in regards to them ...

Tom McGill - I don't see that flying any further than a lead balloon ;-) ... but I would agree just by the numbers ...

so Jason ON - what have I said that is suddenly sane?

Guns don't kill people. Guns make killing people easier, faster, more convenient, less personal, and above all much safer for the killer. So yeah, kind of like toasters, if you think of dead people as toast. I hear this phrase is actually used in America? "You are toast"?
Xenophrenia said…
Magnus Itland - yes - it is and that is a very astute observation ;-) ... I wish more of us would see and understand this ...
