I could have sworn that I found a setting in Android recently that shutdown, or terminated, all running apps that were sucking cpu power but weren't actively launched by the user. v 4.1.1

Now I can't seem to find that setting and its annoying me.

Hold down home button then click the pie icon. There should be a clear memory button. Is that what you need?

Thank you !! I think I found it by accident when I first ran across the setting and that's why I couldn't find it in 'settings'.

Hold the home screen button for a couple of seconds and (maybe) you'll see a few buttons to choose from. The "pie" button is on the left.

In settings, under Device, go to Apps. Each one is listed, you can click on them and force-stop them. (Google Nexus 7 Tablet, Jellybean 4.2)
