Just watched this woman grab a couple of items out of her SUV and head towards the door of Costco, presumably to return them. Fair enough. Then I noticed she left a child I would guess is about 5 or 6 in the backseat with an even younger child in a carseat/carrier thing. Not sure what they're called, but definitely infant sized.

I say call the cope but by the time they get there she may well be gone. At least you have her tag.

ok before we all call the cops, make sure she isnt back in 5 minutes and that the kids aren't perfectly fine. she hasn't committed a crime really.
Steve Ruge said…
Actually in Colorado she probably has. We get tons of these cases on the news.
Brian Haner said…
Fuck that, steal the SUV and make her think twice about doing that shit again!
Jason ON said…
She didn't come back while I was typing. I didn't call the cops, but I asked another woman who was putting items in her car to double check and she confirmed that I wasn't mistaken.

i would go into the store for an all-call announcement before getting any kind of cops involved. embarrass her up

How about you be the good neighbor, watch that nothing happens to them, and when she comes out, just introduce yourself, and say you noticed the little ones in the car and that you wanted to ensure they were safe. No reason to go to this ridiculous "episode". She might get a hint that people are watching, some good, some bad and she needs to be more conscious with her decisions.

The only thing that would have made this better was if she had those "Respect Life" plates

Was the car running?

This once happened to me at best buy, went inside to have woman paged, she never responded. Manager called cops, woman came out screaming at the four of us who were deciding what to do with kids in car. Woman was pissed because she was going trying to adopt and this would surely be terrible if police called. Yea whatever. People who think leaving their kids in a car is ok should not be ok to adopt. Is it that important to return your items right then? Yea it is a total pain to haul in and out two kids and make a quick errand, but is it safe to leave them in the car?

So has she come back yet? The cow!!

I could have understood if she stopped at a gas station or 7-11 or something that was in and out with a view of the vehicle. This was Costco and we were parked fairly far from the door.

I'm at the house I'm staying at now figuring she wasn't going to be in there longer than it took to return the items so maybe a few minutes longer than I was there for. I added her tag and the location in case anyone is actually watching the interwebz for this sort of thing.

Tasha Hericks, no the Cadillac SUV wasn't running, but it's not hot or cold out right now.

How about blurring the number of her car panel?
Jason ON said…
Amira Gadoura , why? My post was designed to "out" her.
Amira Gadoura said…
And just like she left her kids in the car, thinking that they will stay unharmed if she left them there for 5 minutes " Which is obviously a wrong thing to do. Your post was aimed to " out" her as in you think the should pay for what she did, someone else you don't know might use this panel number and track her down " for other reasons".

You have to be careful when you put information like this on the web, just saying...

To recap: We snap a photo of the license plate, drive off, post said license plate on the internet in an attempt to "out" this lady. Meanwhile, there are still two kids in an Escalade with no one watching them.

So, really today, in the category of moral high ground and good citizenry we're 0 for 2. Hmmm...
Amira Gadoura said…
Wouldn't have been just easier if you watched out for the kids for a couple of minutes OR if you went inside the store and reminded her that her kids are not safe.
Jason ON said…
Wasn't trying to take the moral high ground, so I don't feel the least bit bad about that. And your recap is wrong, I sat around for a few minutes taking the picture, walking back to my truck, posting the first (and second posts by me) and talking to the other lady about the kids in the truck. So, I was there for a good 10 minutes. If it had been summer or last weekend with the extreme temperatures I might have done it another way, but as it is, they're not my kids and as far as I could tell they were in no immediate danger of anything.
Amira Gadoura said…
They are not your kids, so obviously you don't feel responsible for looking after them, which is understandable.

But what's strange is that you feel responsible enough to make this post in order to " out" the mother who left them exposed to all kinds of dangers.. oh wait, you just said " they were in no immediate danger of anything" .
Steve Ruge said…
It's 29F today. Any mother who is too lazy to unbuckle her kids and not take them inside should not be a parent. If the Costco return was so important take the kids home first.
Steve Ruge said…
Amira Gadoura Perhaps he took the time to do what he did because Colorado has a high proportion of bad parents. Just last week in Denver someone left a kid in a car for 30 minutes when it was 16F outside. Remind her the kids are not safe? Please. And what is he supposed to do, walk every aisle of the Costco asking who the idiot is driving a white Escalade leaving their unsupervised kids in the car? I don't believe Costco does PA announcements and even if they radioed each other I doubt anyone would fess up to doing such a stupid thing.
Amira Gadoura said…
To watch the kids for a couple of minutes, or ask the mother to watch them, or post about her bad parenting skills is only a choice he can make. And we all don't have to agree with it.

But! I said it would be wise to blur her panel numbers so this car won't be tracked down by " dangerous" people!

I would wait for her to come out and rip her a new one. Remember the woman that left her kid in the car to go tanning in Parker?
Chad Knasinski said…
She left a baby in the car while she went tanning in Parker. It made the news. It was hot out but today is in the low 30's and getting colder.
Jason ON said…
Oh. I've been away from media for most of the week.

Like I pointed out earlier, I have no doubt she only went in to return the items, not shop.
Chad Knasinski said…
Worst case scenario, what if someone stole the car?
Gem F said…
I think the price for cute babies is up to 100k, way more than the car. And a very different kind of penalty. I don't think a car thief would get very far.

^5 +Jason ON Good for you for posting! She deserved to be outed! Shame on her! Stupid patenting seems to be a serious issue and common sense is no longer common. What will make these people learn? smh

I have 2 small children, so I can attest to the fact that toting 2 small children around is a giant PIA. Still, I'd never leave them in the car unattended. I get nervous enough running into a convenience store where I can see the car the whole time. Besides the effects of the weather, and possible miscreants, there's always the chance that the older child would remove himself from the car seat and get himself into trouble.

There was an earlier comment from someone who said he'd been left alone in a car and turned out just fine. I was left alone in a car as a child too, but, when I was a kid, news stories about 5 or 6 year olds driving off in unattended cars were common.
