Imagine for a second a Zika pandemic.
Imagine for a second a Zika pandemic. No one wants their child growing up with only a partial brain or barely being able to perform automatic functions such as breathing.
Now imagine you've discovered, via ultrasound, your child has the Zika virus. Do you keep the child knowing it's life will be full of hardship, possibly not even capable of living without being attached to a machine, or do you terminate the pregnancy to spare the child such a life?
But what if you live in one of more than half the states that have outlawed abortion or passed laws that penalize doctors for performing them? What if it's not just you, but thousands or tens of thousands?
