Remember when AIM, ICQ and YIM were all the rage?

Remember when AIM, ICQ and YIM were all the rage? Then social media came along with their chat boxes and finally instant messaging was dead. Or so we thought. As more and more people flocked to their Walls, Streams and Boards other flocked back to a more simple real-time text tool. And suddenly IM was back.

And now it's getting smarter. Google will be rolling out an AI augmented chat service called Allo. Will it replace Hangouts which, in turn, replaced Talk? Or will Allo be another layer on top of the Android experience, working within Hangouts, Gmail and Now?
