So what's going on is that the creator has chosen one set of consonant notes; one minor chord, across many octaves. It looks like it uses a camera, and some sort of visual processing chooses notes from that set somehow (unimportant really). Then those notes are sent as midi signals to a digital piano or equivalent effect unit.

The smart bit is that whatever choices are made, the music will always be consonant; it can't be "wrong". But it'll always be stuck on that one chord.
