I tried making the USB stick with a 32gig drive, but it just sort of hung there for an hour not doing anything. I'll have to find a smaller stick somewhere. 

Also, I looked at Remix, but it had a much smaller hardware list it would work with.

Had to find a smaller USB drive, but once I did, it worked like a charm. I now have a Chromebook.

I found an 8gig stick lying around. I highly recommend going to their "verified" models page and seeing if there are any tricks or restrictions with that model. Mine, for example, won't use Bluetooth (no problem) and after a couple of tries I finally figured out why it wouldn't boot from USB. Apparently, with this computer, even though the BIOS is set to boot from "external" first, you have to hit ESC during boot process in order to force it to do so.

Otherwise, it went smoothly.
