Received my new OnePlus One today. Woot!

I know some of you get new phones whenever a new phone comes out, but I'm poor - I get new phones when I need a new phone.

After two years with my Note II, I'm finally onto something different. The Note II was my very first and only Samsung Mobile USA phone and while it worked great, it was getting a little long in the tooth. I could have gone with another Samsung, or anything for that matter, but I really wanted to get back to stock Android instead of skins and bloatware.

Yes, I realize the 1+One isn't technically stock Android, it's stock Cyanogen Inc., but it's still new and shiny to me. And, no bloatware. No apps I'l never use taking up space, no Samsung apps that do the same thing as Google apps and no T-Mobile apps, either. None of which I ever used.

However, the Note II did last through it's very own trial by fire. Or water, I should say. It went swimming once, had been dropped, flung, stepped on, you name it. And it came out working fine. The screen has more cracks on it than an shattered egg, but otherwise worked fine. The plastic body has it's own share of cracks and dents and while I doubt it would survive another swimming excursion, it still worked. The headphone jack, however, doesn't. Maybe it got water logged.

I was hoping to buy the Nexus6 but when it came out it was no longer financially feasible. Who does Google think I am, an Apple fanboy?

The 1+One has no external storage, which bothers me a bit, but with 64 internal gigs, I think I'll be fine for a while. It also doesn't have a removeable battery which will be a first for me. Let's hope there won't be any problems that need the battery pulled to fix.

It's outer dimensions are fairly close to my Note II, with the visible screen being just a tad bit larger. I do miss the physical button, though. Yes, I like buttons. I was born in the 70s. Get over it.

I did hear some horror stories about a yellow tinge to the lower part of the screen, but so far I don't seem to have anything like that showing up, so yay!

I don't believe in unboxing videos (seriously? a video about taking something out the box? how stupid!) so there isn't a video.

Great phone! May I note, reading that, it sounds like you are convincing yourself it was a good buy. Lol

Not at all, Nate Taylor. For the most part my Note II is still a relevant phone, it just lacks internal storage (read: app storage) and has a few aesthetic problems. As far as I'm concerned, the money I spent on this will be worth it if the phone lasts a year, and even more worth it if the phone lasts two.

I was trying to write a little "first impressions" and comparison thing in case anyone popped in with questions.

I've been considering one of these, because my Nexus 4 is starting to have age-related issues and Nexus 6 is a little pricier than I expected (though I may actually get it from T-Mobile, as they're distributing it stock, no nonsense apps). I'll be interested in your follow up on how happy you are with the phone I've also seen concerns that the company is in trouble and may not survive to support it long-term.

My GS4 GPe is still running well, but I may jump onto Nexus 6 once the prices come down a bit on Swappa.

As long as I can go online with my Samsung old phone I am straight. I hate having to use my old lady's iPhone. Shoot I'm old school and its a privilege to have access to the world. Shoot Back in the hole all I had access to was Wilas. Lol
