Gee... how could Disney ruin Star Wars?

(/facepalm) This will be interesting.  Given my love of 4-6, and my disappointment in 1-3 and their refusal to release the originals in Blu-Ray, I've pretty much become indifferent to this franchise lately.

A tiny part of me hopes that wrestling the content away from Lucas can prove fruitful, but I'm afraid of what could happen.

Hey Jennifer Paulk-McGinley, heads up.

Jason ON Don't get me started...... Ever see a Disney made film with any type of violence in it whatsoever?
Jason ON said…
I've read nearly all the post-RotJ books and a few pre-ANH books as well. There are a ton of stories, some better than others, so I don't know where Disney plans on building out their own market.

I didn't hear about Marvel too - this is surreal.

Kevin Williams They bought Marvel years ago. Disney was the force behind Avengers, Thor, Iron Man 2 and Captain America

Anthony Curreri Disney does make violent films, though they usually label them as Touchstone Pictures.

Touchstone doesn't actually exist as its own company, but exists solely for this purpose. Con Air, Enemy of the State, Gone in 60 Seconds, Coyote Ugly, Pearl Harbor, Bad Company, Armageddon, etc

Brian E. Young Interesting...didnt know that!

Disnay owns Miramax.  The people behind Kill Bill.  Everyone just stay calm.  This isn't a big deal.
George Lukas was dead to me the minute he released episode one.

Jason ON As for the story line....there has always been a rumor that Lucas had enough story for at least 3 more movies after the originals.
Brian E. Young said…
Right, Lucas says so himself that he is handing over his own story treatments for 7-9 as part of the deal: The Future of Star Wars Movies
Jason ON said…
I wonder what Lucas' treatments for 7-9 are since the story of Han, Luke and Leia are covered from about 3 seconds after the Battle of Endor until about 45 years later.
Anthony Curreri said…
Jason ON I would say either their children or different characters entirly.
Jason ON said…
Their childrens' stories are also told. Some of them have even died already.

I'd have to assume different characters entirely.
Anthony Curreri said…
Jason ON Well .......told in books and comics etc.. but not in movie form.
Jason ON said…
Told in the books still makes them canon, the books are just not allowed to disregard or disagree with anything in the films. Heck, Lucas even took some of he facts from the books and put them in the prequels.

Comic books, I'm not so sure if they're canon or not. Same with video games, however comic characters and game characters have shown up in the books.

Speaking of comics: Dark Horse has had the rights to Star Wars and had been putting out the Star Wars comics for decades.  How long until the rights go over to Marvel?
Jason ON said…
A contract is a contract, so either Big D will have to buy it out from Dark Horse or the comic rights stay with Dark Horse until negotiation time. It helps Disney get those rights from DH now that they can use Marvel as a negotiating tool.
