I saw on the show Big Love a scene wherein there were binders full of women coming of age for the polygamists to choose from for their next wives. I'm not sure how to search for that, but Romney's claim to have binders full of women reminded me of that scene.

Can anyone find info on that practice? Do Mormon polygamists really choose their brides like that?

Hilarious. I've no further linkage to offer, but big fan of that show :P

Good observation.

However, polygamists are considered outside of the Mormon faith.

Great link, Frances Uku!

This one! http://bindersfullofwomen.tumblr.com/post/33750309912/binders-full-of-women-the-joy-book-from-big-love

Shows their faces to see how pretty they are and their legs to prove how thin they are (I guess).

One thing I never understood about polygamists is how do they expect to keep having multiple wives for each man. Either they have to keep recruiting more women from outside their religion or they have to push out young males so there's less competition. Otherwise the ratio of women to men is impossible to maintain. I can see how this might work in cultures where a lot of young men are killed in wars but it doesn't make sense in most modern societies.
